The Edo State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Em­ployees (NULGE), yesterday, urged the Adams Oshiomhole led government in Edo state, to fulfill its obligation in the payment of salaries of primary school teachers in the state.
The state NULGE President, Mr Edward Illenikhena made this call Sunday while speak­ing to newsmen in Benin City on Sunday. He noted that while state governments within the South South region of the country have been meeting up their constitutional responsi­bilities, the Edo state govern­ment has taken exception to its obligations to teacher’s pay.
Illenikena noted that the taking over of the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) base of area councils by the state government as largely respon­sible for the councils’ inability to meet its obligation as re­gards the payment of workers’ salaries. It would be recalled that state governments and the councils were to jointly fund primary schools, includ­ing payment of salaries of the teachers.
