Captain Vincent Kompany will miss Manchester City's final Champions League group game - against Borussia Monchengladbach - with a calf injury.

The 29-year-old has been sidelined with the problem since early November.

Striker Sergio Aguero, defender Martin Demichelis and midfielder Samir Nasri are all injured too.

City have already ensured their place in the last 16, but could overtake Italian side Juventus at the top of the group with victory.

Juventus - two points clear of City and with a better head-to-head record - play Sevilla away in their final group game.

As it stands, second-placed City risk being drawn against Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich - who are all leading their respective groups - in the first knockout stage.

"It is important for us to do our task, to win the game and then see what happens with Juventus," City manager Pellegrini said.

"The most important thing is to qualify, but once you have done that you have to finish at the top, so there are not too many players to rest, maybe one or two."

City have kept only two clean sheets in their last 10 Premier League games having kept six in a row prior to that, but Pellegrini denied that their defensive slump was down to skipper Kompany's absence.

"Over the whole season, there are a lot of games that we play without our important players," he said.

"Last season we played the last six games without Vincent Kompany and we won all six and kept four clean sheets.

"Against Stuttgart [in a pre-season friendly] we played with Vincent Kompany and we conceded four goals.

"It is not just one player."

Gladbach lost their first five league games of the season, but have won eight of the next 10 to climb to third behind leaders Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.

Football was in crises in 2012 when Chelsea won the Ucl
Re: Manchester City Vs Borussia Moechengladbach: UCL (4 - 2) On 8th December 2015 by TheGoodJoe(m): 8:04pm On Dec 08, 2015
It is going to be a very tough game because Moechengladbach beat Bayern Munich 3-1 three days ago. That was a very impressive result.

I hope we Cityzens rise to the task. We need to win this group and we hope Sevilla helps us beat Juventus. A win in Juventus was suppose to help us win the group but we blew our chance.

I hope Pellegrini and his men right the wrongs of our last match.

Come On Citizens.

One of my worst memories in the history of Champions league. Watching Chelsea park the bus repeatedly until they won the trophy.

Well that is in the past. City time.

Very nice line up. We are going all out for the win. Sterling leads the attack. I am expecting two goals from Sterling and De Bruyne.

Monchengladbach have not lost in their last nine games in the Bundesliga. Wining seven and drawing two including a 3-1 demolition of the league leaders Bayern Munich in their last game.

They also thrashed the Europa League Champions Sevilla in their last Champions League Outing. We the Cityzens have a tough game in our hands.

I think Fernando is an important player of the team because he is one of the few players who actually sits back to help our defence. Although, Shaqiri made a mess of him in the last EPL game with his pace, I feel it looked that way because he was the person trying to protect us.

With Yaya, Fernando and Delph, we have three men who like to go forward and leave the back unprotected. We have to hold the ball well, if not we will be in danger when Monchengladbach hits us on a counter.

Pellegrini wants to go all out I hope our goals come early.

I think so. Sagna has been immense and the rest will do him some good.

Maybe, there is a player on the Monchengladbach side who is a right footer but attacks from the left wing. Like Henry or Neymar.

So Pellegrini is opting for a left footer to mark him. I suspect it might be more of a tactical decision than to rest Sagna.

You have a point but I can't still trust him, though he sit back to protect the back but he is not up to standard let me say he is not consistent. One good game 4bad games no that's not what we want, can I just have someone like de jong

Fernando is recovering from a long battle from injuries. Let us give him time to recover.

We are playing a side good on the counter. I hope we are not playing into their hands going all out in attacking them.

Fernando might help us shield the defence when the others attack and lose the ball.

Although Pellegrini might make Fernandinho seat back and help the defence. Let us see.
