Russian destroyer fires warning shots at Turkish fishing boat on collision course in Aegean

A Russian destroyer had to open warning fire as a Turkish fishing vessel sailed on a collision course towards them and didn’t respond to calls from the warship, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.

The incident happened in the northern part of the Aegean Sea some 12 nautical miles from the Greek island of Lemnos, the ministry said.


The crew of the Kashin-class guided missile destroyer Smetlivy spotted the Turkish fishing trawler some 1,000 meters from the Russian warship early on Sunday morning, the ministry said. The ship was sailing towards the destroyer and ignored calls for radio contact and other attempts to communicate.

When the Turkish vessel approached to about 600 meters, the Smetlivy opened small arms fire at a spot in front of the trawler, taking care to avoid any risk of hitting the Turkish ship itself, the report said.

The ministry said the Turkish fishing ship changed course after that and kept about 540 meters from the Smetlivy, but didn’t contact the Russian warship.

“Russian Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov has summoned the military attaché of the Turkish embassy in Russia in connection with the incident in the Aegean Sea,” the statement said.

There is serious tension between Turkey and Russia after an incident on the Turkish-Syrian border, in which Turkish fighter jets shot down a Russian bomber plane conducting airstrikes against terrorist forces in Syria. Turkey said the move was justified by a 17-second incursion into Turkish airspace.

Russia denied the Russian warplane crossed the border and called the incident a stab in the back. Moscow accused Ankara of protecting terrorists in Syria to ensure a continued flow of smuggled oil to Turkey, which Russia says profits some senior Turkish officials.

Well they won't get it cos Russia doesn't want a volatile situation to deteriorate into something much worse. Besides, the truth - even though I hate to admit it - is that Russia is not yet ready to fight this seemingly inevitable war with the West. Russia's overhaul and modernization of its military is still a couple of years away from complete. Russia I think is also holding unto hope that elements within the EU come to their senses and break rank with the plans of the hegemon.

Medvedev on Su-24 Downing: Moscow Refuses Ankara's Invitation to War


Ankara gave Moscow ground for war, but Russia has refused to respond 'symmetrically', Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev told journalists answering the question on Russian Su-24 downing by Turkish F-16 over Syria.
“After a plane was destroyed, how would a country usually react in the 20th century? Begin a war. Because this [Su-24 downing] was a direct attack on another country,” the prime minister said.

Putin: Su-24's Black Box to Reveal Truth About Jet Shot Down by Turkey
On November 24, the Russian Su-24 aircraft crashed in Syria after being downed by a Turkish jet. Ankara said that the attack came in response to the violation of Turkish airspace by the Su-24. Both the Russian General Staff and the Syrian Air Defense Command confirmed that the Russian bomber never crossed into Turkish airspace.
The Russian president described the Turkish attack as a "stab in the back" carried out by "accomplices of terrorists."

Big mistake ! little Turkey has no bones , they even cannot win their war against PKK. The only thing they will do is go whine at NATO Headquarters. But a NATO reaction will automatically trigger a "rain" worse than what Sodom and Gomorrah experienced.You don't play with the Russians. Remember Stalingrad if you are wise.

How I see it, (Highly predictable) Russia will fight a defensive war rather than offensive against the AngloZionist Empire. This is what was used in SE of Ukraine that really made Obama and its puppets in Kiev plus the rest in the Puppet Empire look so backward and outdated. And we already see this in Syria. Now they are given an order (In Syria in relation to Turkey) to spot the Turkish threat and destroy it.

This is the Chess Game Putin is Playing. Expect Saudi Arabia and Qatar to Play its Card soon, while you will likely get almost the same response from Putin. This is the Neocons's game. The more defensive Card Putin Plays, the more the world sees how demonic the evil empire is. This should Naturally Break the Evil Empire without major wars.
