probably labelled as such by nairalanders who tag everything in Nigeria "world class" as a form of mockery.

The actual drum itself is called the world's tallest drum.

We should be mindful of the way we use the term 'world class'; anytime we build small house, paint am with glossy colour and add ceiling fan, we yell world class, abegi. That was how Akpabio built a 'world class' hospital Uyo, only to travel to London for world class treatment. This our stupidity gat to stop.

Exactly what was on my mind, when Akpabio had minor issues too he had to travel abroad despite boasting he built a world class health center, but does that mean most of the facilities are just for exhibition or borrowed?
Re: Ondo Trauma & Surgical Centre Built By Mimiko (Photos) by Reference(m): 8:29pm On Dec 25, 2015
What's it about Nigerian Government Medical Facilities and their sprawling architecture as if they were all designed by one person. Last time I was at one (which looked like all the others) on an accident/emergency case I had to walk several kilometres that day from section to the other. A&E 600 metres from the blood bank, then 300 metres from accounts then 500 metres and unending corridors to the dispensary. The worst thing is there is hardly anything in between, crappy offices, broken down lavatories and junk yard stores. We managed to get the chap a wheel-chair, pay for surgery only to discover that the theatre had no power. Guess what. No refund. The payment was for that specific theatre and had been 'entered into the system'. No problem except yet another journey of a thousand metres and the poor chap was filling the small bucket under his lacerated arm. I don't know what inspires Nigerian medical architecture but it is certainly not user friendly.

Why are people more concerned about the party that built the hospital, rather than the massive health benefits this center will bring to the community, the state and the country at large?
Do you think a sick person cares whether the project came from a PDP or an APC governor?

Mcheew.

Ondo State Trauma and Surgical Centre

The Ondo State Trauma and Surgical Centre is located within the Medical Village in Ondo Town about 4 kilometers from the city of Akure and 116 kilometres from Benin.

It is a rapidly evolving surgical specialty based centre aimed at providing world-class tertiary comprehensive surgical services to the people of Ondo State, surrounding environs and Nigeria in General.

It is part of a comprehensive medical village, borne out of the desire of the Governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, to make specialized healthcare services readily available to the people of the state where they live, work and play and also to provide world-class, tertiary specialized surgical and emergency care which adheres to the best international practices within an integrated healthcare system.

The Medical Village also plays host to the Mother and Child Hospital, Kidney Care Centre, the Gani Fawehinmi Diagnostic Centre and the University of Medical Sciences (First of its kind in Africa). There is also a state-of-the-art emergency Communication Centre, a Histopathology and Forensic Centre which are yet to fully take off.

Ondo State Trauma and Surgical Centre commenced clinical and surgical services on 28thNovember 2013 with the following specialties; Orthopeadics and Trauma, Plastic Surgery, ENT, Anaesthesia and General surgery. It has since continued to improve and augment services, infrastructure and personnel to include Paediatric Surgery, Urology, Maxillo – facial Sugery and Opthalmology. The centre has carried out over 3000 surgeries as at November 2015.

It serves as a referral area for mainly the General Hospitals in Ondo State and parts of Osun, Ekiti and Edo State. It also receives referrals from across Nigeria and patients from other parts of the country.

The Ondo State Trauma and Surgical Centre runs 24hours emergency services in General Surgery, Burns, Plastic and reconstructive surgery, Orthopaedics and Trauma, Neurologic surgery, Paediatric surgery, Otorhinolaryngology, Anaesthesia, pharmacy, Nursing, Physiotherapy, and Radio diagnosis.

The Trauma Centre liaise closely with sister hospitals; Ondo State Kidney Care Centre, Gani Fawehinmi Diagnostic services and Mother and Child Hospital with which Mimiko Government constitute a Medical Village for ancillary support services including Obstetrics, Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Radiology and Laboratory support.

It also runs out – patient surgical services and offer our patients elective day – case surgeries with efficient in – patient care, including oncology, endocrine, hepatobiliary, breast surgery, a special Burn Centre and intensive care.

To further strengthen the emergency medical services, the state government established Ondo State Emergency Medical Services Agency (ODEMSA) with the mandate to provide emergency  rescue, pre-hospital and hospital services to road crash victims in the state. 5 fully functional Accident Rescue Stations along the highways across Ondo state were built; Ore, Bolorunduro, Ilara, Owo and Oka-Akoko. 100 Extricators and 100 paramedics work 24hrs in all the stations and the response time to accident scenes is 15mins.  Each station has an Advanced Life Support Vehicle equipped with oxygen and other essentials needed sustain accident victims while they are being conveyed to the nearest hospital or the Trauma Center.

The Trauma Centre is not free unlike the Mother and Child Hospitals but it provides care before billing. In the African setting that is as good as being free

they should probably look into golf carts or some form of motorized transport to ease all these.

Exercise is good but should still be regulated or modified depending on context.

Demmocrats:

Its better to have an intelligent and thinking Governor like Mimiko unlike the varmint and rascal broom waving Aregbesola.
O'Ambulance services pioneered by Aregbe is still unrivalled in Nigeria today. Even Lagos and Akwa Ibom states with their monthly mega revenue/allocation are not even close.

At least it is still within the state.
Do you want everything to be situated in Akure?

Next time when another governor comes from another senatorial district within the state, they would also build things in their areas.
That is how development spreads out.

Highly commendable achievement. Hopefully we are moving to a time when this will cease to be an achievement, but rather a norm.

If only the government will give this great edifice to a private organization to run and maintain then we would have said it will be a success, but if it will remain under the control of government then am afraid.
