This report also says Nigerians would embrace hybrid cars cos of low fuel consumption and emmission. Since when did Nigerians start caring about emmission and environment?

What a bloody lie. Which sensible investor will come and invest now with the various economic summersaults of this government.?
The jonathan template for the automobile industry has been thrown out of the window or completely reversed.
Airlines and other multi-national coys are making plans to finally move out of the country due to unfavourable cash policies of this govt.
Propagandists.
Bros even we Nigerians will run and never come back if possible. I don't blame the airline and businesses that want to leave.

Exactly. These mumu Nigerians are already saying "nice one", and all that nonsense forgetting that the percentage amounts to over six million vehicles. In what planet do you think Nigeria is that forward thinking to achieve that? That will equal the sales of Ford vehicles. People need to research more and stop swallowing everything fed to them.

GEJ was just used..he was a sacrificial lamb on the altar of ingrates and power hungry morons that man meant well but he was too milk of a person to run sea of hates and sharks of a country like Nigeria..and quote me with proof...do u think any man can rule nigeria and satisfy dis diverse greed culture?becuz all her regions wants diff..thins..diff people to rule..diff agitations...giving birth to a deadly child called SABOTAGE...d same sabotage dat eventualy killed GEJs administration..yet the life line is coming back to him at the long run cuz d good man left a spot like PIMPLE..
PaulJohn1:
If Buhari's administration is serious about local content and building a strong economy, it should be made mandatory that elected officials only use Nigerian vehicles, especially those of indigenous technology like IVM.

BTW, this is one sector that GEJ and his team should be applauded, even though the bad supersede his good deeds.

I fear for this country's citizens, millions are literate but not educated, without proper education we are doomed in this country.

Fulanimafia, this is what we should be talking about on a larger scale and not getting excited that someone that collapsed the oil price is offering to help us buy our oil whenever he wishes.

Imagine having four major car manufacturing industries across the political zones and flood the West African market with cheaper made in Nigeria cars. The jobs that would be created would put Boko Haram, Niger Delta militants et al out of the recruitment market.
Think my friend and not your empty chest beating that won't lead us nowhere.

That Carmudi projection is complete nonsense.

What is the global demand for cars and what is the combined output of our local assembly plants? Can any of the cars assembled in Nigeria be sold in the US or Europe? Can these assembly plants even make us self sufficient?

BTW people should stop focusing on the GEJ Deeds/misdeeds or Buhari deeds/misdeeds and focus more on how Nigeria survives. Our leaders are not the only ones saddled with the responsibility of fixing our country.

4.6% of GLOBAL SALES ! You begin to wonder if we have more than IVM as a manufacturer and the glorified assembly plants scattered about.

I doubt if their combined outputs equals 1% of that of the Hyundai's plant in South Korea.

We wish this nation well, but telling such glaring lies just make us look stupid in the International scene. undecided

You don't grow the GDP of a country with just one sector of business. Nigeria/ns largely depend on importation almost on every thing and with the recent fall of naira to toilet tissue and tight/useless laws on Dollars, exchange, and wire making it almost impossible for importers to do business the GDP is going no where!
Bad enough we really don't have middle class per say in naija making business men and traders especially importers to play that role, our GDP will keep dropping without them.

@ bolded but a gradual stimulation of various sectors in the economy could do more to help! Just a dull PMB govt facing on corruption drive!

You still dey on IVM, a hundred thread will not improve IVM's popularity but if they do demos and a nationwide drive campaign then it is possible for buyers to see what the car can do. Product placement in a couple of Nollywood movies with good drivers will help too, remember Chevy Camaro from Transformers movie.

The government is not the only business out there.

I quite agree with you on this. IVM doesn't have very good marketing strategy. The company really needs to be seen and stop playing from the background. You can't make money when you don't spend money. Innocent needs to market his products aggressively, by partnering with Nollywood, government officials, record labels, etc.

If only he'll see to it that 87% of cars used in Nollywood movies and 40% of cars used in music videos are IVM products, then he'd be surprised how his sales will skyrocket..

You're absolutely right. But I believe Innoson is not very well patronized due to safety concerns.

His cars are china made and assembled in Nigeria without much safety records.

I've seen videos on YouTube of his kind of cars vaporizing on impact at tests.

Purring all these CBN forex restrictions aside, the FG should be thinking of complete ban on use of foreign made cars by government officials. Even is Innoson may not be able to meet up with demand, the Ministry of science and technology and trade and investment should think up something to support companies like Innoson to boost its production capacity.

For starters, the 108 SUVs the NASS wants to buy for committee assignments, if those 108 vehicles can be ordered from Innoson, then I know the government is serious. For any other vehicles they want to procure, I understand Nissan and KIA have plants in Nigeria now, the CBN should find a way to completely block government officials from buying these things from outside the shores of Nigeria.

When the government starts using these vehicles, it would encourage the ordinary Nigerian to also patronise them. There are many other ways the government can save forex besides an outright banning of the use of ATM cards abroad.

How can we have beauties like this being made in Nigeria and yet the government still goes abroad to squander scarce foreign exchange to buy Toyota vehicles?
