Basically analyzing world reaction to two major protests in Nigeria.

A decent amount of Shiite muslims got killed up North after an unruly and violent crowd attacked an army convoy and we had statements from world leaders and riots in a lot of countries, including considerable coverage on cable news abroad and the chatter is still ongoing as we speak. On the other hand, the largely peaceful protests in the SE saw 8-9 people get killed and not any word from any world body or agency.

Why the mixed reaction and what does it betray? After all, these are incidents in the same country. The world completely ignores one and reacts to the other.

I thought the biafrans are tough. Lets look at the quotes of their dilector:

As for the shiites, the army should have left them after passing but they went back to attack them again, killing thousands of people including babies and infants. If they become terrorists now will you blame them?

Another thing that got me thinking. During the Nigerian civil war, the SE was fighting for secession and millions of people got killed. Why did the UN not use that opportunity to intervene and call a referendum despite the genocide?
