This was January 1966. The day that Ironsi appointed Ojukwu,Fajuyi,Katsina and Ejoor Military Governors of the four regions. It was also the day my hero Ojukwu started growing his trademark beard. Only Ejoor is still alive.

Some 50 years ago Nigeria was governed by young men. In this Jet age however, Nigeria is governed by grand pas. So unfair
. And what did the young men achieve? They plunged Nigeria into one of the worst wars in history that claimed more than 1 million lives in less than 3 years and derailed the progress of the nation and Nigerians who were not even born then are now suffering the consequences of their terrible errors. They were not great men, but irrational young military officers.

Funny enough the same set of young men from 1970s are the same set of old men ruling us in 2016 with no visible impact.

Cool Picture.

But as a Niger Deltan, let me talk about the person in the Picture that concerns me.

David Ejoor.

Just like Goodluck Jonathan, David Ejoor had the opportunity to raise the profile of the old Mid West(Niger Delta Now) to he highest level in Nigeria, but what did he do?at the sound of Gun shoot, he paddled a Bicycle through many cities and towns to run away, leaving his Soldiers behind,

In my definition that is Cowardice.

And just like Goodluck Jonathan, he disgraced us.

And that is why, even if he is alive, not as celebrated as Benjamin Adekunle(Black Scorpion), Isaac Adaka Boro, Olusegun Obasanjo and all other War Heros.

David Ejoor was in a precarious situation. During the pogrom and the retaliation coup that killed ironsi, he supported ojukwu and supported Biafra. His eyes cleared a few months into the war in 1967, when ojukwu invaded the midwest to 'liberate' it. They took over benin city in 1 day, looted the CBN safes and the city dry and then proceeded to hunt down david ejoor for death so their officers could take over the region. He installed an igbo man as his replacement too despite col Banjo insisting it should be a mid-westerner (dts where dt ones problem started wt ojukwu).

David Ejoor wasnt prepared for battle. He thought Ojukwu was a friend. I heard he took a bicycle to lagos in the middle of the night.

Those categories of men then were mentally developed than what we have today as young, check most of them on NL can you equate their reasoning to that of an average adult? Laziness, sex and various kind of delinquent and social vices has eroded their average thinking capacity, every one now is looking for an easy way to success. The spirit of hard work and perseverance is left for only a few.don't worry many of our youths are comfortable of occupying the positions of PAs and errand boys for now.

Quite right; the man at the centre (J.T.U Agui Ironsi) was responsible for dismantling our then regional system and replacing it with the unitary system that we have inherited today, including abolition of the much contested issue of resource control, via Decrees no 5 & 34 of 1966.
Therefore, those blaming northerners and calling them names should look back at history, to the root cause of their present woes, and appropriately apportion blame where it truly belongs.

That is the real cause for concern.

When I peruse the Nairaland and other social media forums, and analyze the level of thought reasoning and elocution of majority Nigerian youths, it just explain why the youth will not taste power, at least for now; just because they are not realistic, honest, serious, forward-looking, altruistic, and concerned about challenging and consequential national issues. By their words and actions, the youths seems comfortable with the status quo of being praise singers, unsolicited defenders of rogues and thieves in and out of power, garbage dumb of unrealistic/unworkable tribal/regional junk ideas, mental/intellectual/physical laziness, sycophancy, misplaced priorities.

I remember in 2006 when the famous IBB was asked at 65 why was he going after the presidency of Nigeria? His answer was epic and simple! He said because the youth have not demonstrated their readiness for leadership.

This is the scenario that gave PMB power in 2015. Why should PMB at 71 defeat gej age 57?

Look at all the youthful governors and ministers in the recent dispensation, they have either refused to differentiate themselves or have even performed worse than the so-called old brigades.

in all honesty, without being immodest, there is still some long way to go for the Nigerian youths.

Quite right.....after his homeboys have just murdered their elite who they have reposted the right to look out for their interest, now Ironsi unilaterally decided that he will be the one to speak for the northerners. He did not even have the courtesy to ask them what they they think (about it) rather he just woke up one day and declare Decree 34 whilst being cheered on by his fellow ibo advisers he surrounded himself with and Ojukwu was on radio the following day, jubilating at the idea, bragging in his usual garrulous fashion how he is going to export his kinsmen to the north (and lagos) to take up all the available civil service posts, therein. He probably thought the ibos were at last ready to make good their promise to dominate nigeria.
