ABUJA—The Director General (DG), National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), Professor John Udoko, has said about 3million Nigerians are living with the dreaded Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immune Deficiency syndrome
(AIDS), and out of this number 60% are women.

Prof. Udoko stated this yesterday, when he paid a visit to the Minister of Information and Communications, Professor Dora Akunyili. He said the transmission is mostly through heterosexual sex in Nigeria.

According to the DG, “National Sentinel Studies estimated that in 2008, 2.95 million Nigerians were living with HIV and AIDS, which is mostly transmitted through heterosexual sex.

The national response to the HIV pandemic is addressed under the multi-sectoral and multi-tiered 2005-2009 National Strategic Framework (NSF).”

He said presently in Nigeria there are over 300,000 infected people that are receiving anti-retroviral drugs.

How did they compile the data.
Did they check all the Mallam in the north and all the people in the village, or they mean just the present and the past senators in abuja?
Cos i am so sure the number will be more than that.
Nigerians still dont blv in protection against sex.

Well this figure seems quite accurate. The figure of 5% and above suggested by some foreign organizations is insane.

It's impossible to test everybody in a nation for any particular ailment.

What can be done is a random test of a sample population. Most hospitals in the nation test pregnant women before delivery and have found less than 2% incidence of HIV cases. Employers and Embassies that request HIV tests have also ended up with less than 2% so I really don't know where some people come with figures above 5%.

Screeetch!!!!!! Roflmao!!!!

This figure seems more accurate even though what it provides you is an estimate, which is exactly what the foreign organizations have also done with their 5% and above number?? ROFLMAO!!!!

You even go ahead to explain that it is near impossible to test everybody, but add in the same post that one estimate is more accurate than the other even with that fact??
YOU ARE DEFINITELY A CHARACTER!!! ROFLMAO!!!

Please tell me you are seriously joking. The foreign organizations conducted RANDOM TESTS OF SAMPLE POPULATIONS to come up with 5% but now you say their number is not accurate but we should conduct the exact same test to get a more accurate number? Can you stand somewhere on this please RFLMAO!!!

random testing will be against the people's right.

Someone once commented that the military when they were in power never allowed foreigners to come do testing of any sort in Nigeria. If true, that was not only convenient but a good idea. Northerners were paranoid about foreign organisations insisting on them accepting mass Polio vaccinations. This too seems like a good idea irrespective of what the WHO claims on the contrary in terms of increased incidence of the disease.

For good reasons, the British, Americans, Japanese etcetera would never allow the medics or experts of a foreign country to do testing on their people. Thing is, if you let these foreigners do HIV testing in Nigeria they will inflate the figures for incidences of the dieses in the country and then like  your regular undergraduate hypothesis question, go out an prove the case- in this instance by infecting people with HIV so that it matches their inflated figures. Call me paranoid if you like but I did not invent espionage the West did.

Random Testing has been around for decades. UNICEF, WHO etc does not only treat children, and adults of diseases here and there. It records those numbers and uses it to generate needed stats. Most of the people who are tested are informed that the information will be used to help their communities and so on. It is no big deal and people have generally not had a problem with that for a while now.

Now if you are referring to random AIDS test, I still think it would not be announced but definitely stats will be collected from cases discovered and graphs plotted to arrive at an estimate of some sort. These organizations have been collecting data in Nigeria for decades. Especially when the millitary was in power. If not for the above mentioned organizations, I doubt the health situation could have not been worse considering a large number of the poor depended on them for help back then.

Since HIV is gotten through sex I suggest that all men should be casterated because they will never stay on their on and allow women to rest.
