I did not say she should not charge him to court. I am only saying that she should also prove that those allegations are false. It is easy to do. After that, she can charge the guy to court for being used as a agent of discord, libel and to assassinate the character of a law-abiding citizen.

Dude...it does not work like that..........let the blogger prove his claim in court.....so that Laurette can be disgraced in the open.....isn't that why he made the comment in the 1st palce .........Laurette abeg go to court and sue his black a$$ grin grin grin grin

I see the point you are trying to make...but I beg to differ sir.

It would not be easier for her to prove that the allegations are false...and in all honesty, you and I know a rebuttal would be futile in this situation.

This is Nigeria where any allegation against someone is taken as truth and the person is tried, convicted and sentenced in the media even before the "accused" gets a chance to be heard.

Case in point is this very thread we are on. Go back and read the comments from people that have already condemned the woman based on the OP.

I suspect very few of them even know the woman beyond the fact that she is a member of the APC and supported President Buhari 's campaign.

A rebuttal is in my opinion, only effective or useful where people are open and fair minded and willing to hear from both sides before reaching a conclusion.

A rebuttal is not futile. I agree that a rebuttal from her will not have as much effect as it should in saner climes. However, people make rebuttals all the time to correct misconceptions. Case in point, Lara husband and Iweala. The comrade governor has made damaging statements against NOI, but NOI has made well-orchestrated public rebuttals. Today, whenever the governor says something against NOI, many know he is just trying to be silly and loud-mouthed.

To address your point, many people castigated NOI after oshiomole's untrue allegations. If she had simply taken him to court, she would have won, and most people will still hold their prejudice. By challenging him in the public domain, she did her best to clear her good name and give people a chance to make informed decisions by themselves.

That is what I am recommending in this instance. She can also choose to make a public rebuttal in addition to pursuing a case. There is no law that says she should, but informal laws of reputation management maintain that you should make a public rebuttal when baseless accusations are made in the online domain.

I have freelanced as an Online Reputation Management specialist for individuals and small firms. I know what I am talking about.

Oga, I did not say she should not take him to court oo. All my comments on this thread have advised her to continue her case. Read them to know why I want her to make a public rebuttal. I cannot repeat myself over and over again, it is a tiresome effort.
