The car is a Toyota Corolla 2006 V4 1.8L engine.

The car is fairly neat though seems to have been repainted.
The car is manual transmission and it seems the engine is still in a good condition. Although I could see some black smoke at rev about 6k

I need heads-up/advice about this car - Best maintenance practice, Dos/donts and it's limitations.

Note: This is my first car and I will be using it for alot of moving around my state.

Black smoke from your exhaust means the car is burning fuel excessively. Alot could cause that. Running a scan on the car is just a step in the right direction

My advice to you, before you pick this car, contact GAZZUZZ to help you throughly inspect this car mechanical and otherwise.
If not, you would be back here after purchase, seeking advice after things seems to be going wrong with your 1st purchase.
NB: I sincerely hope your deposit is refundable?

The hesitation you are experiencing at gear one is due to bad clutch (the disc and plate)

No, what I am saying is, the vehicle temperature gauge does not work (according to buyer), so how does he know the true state of the engine temperature?

I also thought in that direction. In fact, I have to check the coolant(water) every now and then since I got the car (yesterday).

I took the car for checkup today with two Kazeems.
One told me it's the Engine seat (Engine mount). He told me he'll have to change about two of the seats. He asked me to come back tomorrow.
The second also told me at first that it is the Engine seat. Although after he thoroughly checked the seats ( after I bought the items) he came to realise that the engine seats are actually not worn/bad. Then he mentioned something about clutch. He said something that sounds like "Re-beat". I was although skeptical about his diagnosis.
Please, what do you advise that I do to solve my problem?

Is the car Euro or US spec?

You mentioned ECU swap. That could be the cause of many problems including the black smoke.

I think I need a competent hand to work on the car.

U haven't seen d whole faults yet until u have driven d car for like six months a lot of parts may b at their last life n need changed, hope there is no CEL. its almost always like dt for a naija used car

Everything can b fixed sha provided there is money, d good thing is dt D car u bought is naturally rugged n can withstand abuses n still run but may never run as toks no matter hw much u spend

Guess u were carried away by d newly repainted body dt was shinning

Infact, i have a rule in buying Nigerian used cars, i buy what i can fix, not what has been fixed since i wont know how well it was done.

All cars can be problematic (i1 - W32) etc etc. If regular maintenance schedules are not performed and issues fixed properly and appropriately(using OEM parts or next to).
Not crappy Chinko, Aba or Indian parts!!!!

Your car is not a v4 but an i4...how can it be a v4 when d engine isn't V-shaped?

Now,so dat some of us can learn,kindly tell why u dumped a v6 for the i4

best thing to do is to return the car and get refund of your money. I've seen cases like this....there is more to this car that you don't know, else you will just be regretting the deal for a loooooong time.
if you can only get 200k,dash the owner the rest.

come to think of it, corolla that is hot cake now, u are buying @ 700k, you gave the owner 300k and he asked you to take the car! something is wrong somewhere,
