I ask a simple question for every decision I have seen this administration make, and the question is "With GEJ's government, would it not have been worse". To me its an issue of opportunity cost, what ever seems to be happening now, worse would have been happening if we stuck with GEJ. Is it power?, the best electricity we ever had was 3 months into Buhari's reign, is it the decline is revenue?, so many states would have been on strick by now. is it the subsidy removal?, by now despite the global decline in crude, we might still be stuck on N97 per liter with one minister telling us some cock and bull economics. Not to mention the massive corruption that would have continued. it is inevitable that government must take some harsh decisions as this are trying times for all oil producing countries. A lot of Nigerians still go to bed knowing Nigeria has hope under Buhari.

The problem with Nigeria is the masses mentality and their socialism tendency.
We like to be United state of America, we want to be like other developed countries like countries in western Europe, East Asians etc but we are not ready to work and sacrifice for it.

Every mega city always look for ways to make it attractive for investors, expertise and people that will contribute to the social economy status of the city.

The priority o fashola as the Lagos state governmer is to build roads, water works, schools etc but these infrastructure requires funding most of which are generated internally, hence through tax, most of these tax comes from these so called elite and high end people. So, naturally those areas will get these services first before other areas like that contribute zero in term of tax will get.

Been poor is a choice, you either decide to be poor by been lazy, give birth to too many children or be comfortable by working hard and have a moderate family. Most of us in this country don't really know the roles of government, don't know that the size of family have a role to play on how rich or poor an individual can be.
In UK people save money for their children education, this allow them to have a moderate population and small family. If you can't afford to send your children to school why having many of them

Please tell them. Even within families they carry this entitlement mentality. No social, individual responsibility. People that can barely feed themselves but have multiple wives and children and then are looking around for everyone else to shoulder the liability they created.

Dont worry don't pay your taxes, don't pay your electricity bill and be expecting manner to fall from heaven.

While I do not agree that they should increase tariff yet but that they need to introduce penalties for none paying, encourage people who pay on time and introduce stringent penalties to those who steal electricity. Like pay 15k if paid within say a month and additional charge if paid later.

First of all the price template was not fashioned by Fashola it was a design from the previous government for an ideal running of the system. If u listened to what BRF said that it was the way it had suppose to be with the price but the last government did not implement it. The Disco recently declared to divest from the buy if the pricing is not improved because they are not making return and it is preventing them in investing more and even exanding as required by the government agreement on them. How can u run a business without making profits? So accordingly the new pricing will now make them stand well in terms of rendering and expanding after a particular time in agreement with the govt.
We only want everything to suit us like oyibo without making any effort like them . When we travel to other developed nations do you realise how much other nations are paying for various taxes that are non existent in nigeria we just like everything free.
Some social service is coming as promised and we are happy but how many are ready to pay for anything just like other nations or do you all complain or refuse to pay if you travel out especially South Africa

Can I suggest you perhaps read the document here before coming to the erroneous conclusion that investors are unserious? I mean we're talking about people like Tonye Cole of Sahara Energy that own IKEDC, Tony Elumelu and many more. How possible is it that such accomplished business people will suddenly not know what they are doing?

I have tried to download many (if not all) of the said documents from that site, the response I got was "File Not Found."
Are there any other download links for these documents?

Which of those items that you listed is not functioning? You complain about too much payment, yet an average of 700,0000 people are trooping to Lagos every day! The simple reason is because you get the services you pay for. Nigerians don't mind paying for services as long as the service is delivered.
People like you should know that there is no free lunch. You want constant electricity? Then be ready to pay for it - Period!
The only reason why I didn't support tariff increment during previous administrations is that WE KNOW it will be embezzled. However, with PMB, this is not the case. Even without the increment, we started noticing improvement in power supply.
I know some wailers will say its GEJ that did it (conveniently forgetting the ground works of OBJ). But I ask them why it is that we didn't see the result in GEJ's time. If you buy a generator in your house, won't the generator start working immediately or will it wait till you move out of the house and another person takes over before the generator start to work?

Having said this, Fashola must know that he has now put his name and reputation on the line! Tariff has now been increase by as much as 65%. He and his team had better make power available - otherwise we will not fail to utilize our voting power in 2019 to boot them out!

You expect good service from government and don't want to pay for it. Don't u people understand government needs money to work especially this govt that met empty treasury. All advanced governments that deliver depend on an effective taxation system to raise money. You don't try paying your tax in America and see what happens to u. But since Nigeria has such a poor tax system I guess the govt has to rely on increased tariffs to raise money.

you are funny, the people you are referring to didn't raise taxes to build infrastructure, they managed what they had to develop introduced taxation to maintain them. by the time they people were paying taxes, they also saw the benefits.

In Nigeria, our taxes, end up in silly allowances for political office holders, your country is wasteful. taxpayers money are used to provide luxury for political class, new car every year, new buildings, new everything every year, the remaining are looted or a few in used to develop the country.

Abroad, can you compare the minimum wage with Nigeria??

No one is against taxation, but this silly things must stop, if they want to improve the power sector, they should use their money and fund it, when people see improvement they will pay, and not collecting money from people, promising to improve the sector.
I like your points and they make sense but the question now is how does Nigeria raise the money needed to build the infrastructure before we talk about taxing to maintain? You know very well what our current economic situation is! Those ills you spoke about happened with past governments. This is a new govt with good plans but no money to implement. They literally have no other choice. The fact that they even have to beg and appeal to Nigerians to accept the tariff hikes should tell you a lot.

It's either you are simply naive or outrightly mischevious.
Fashola is not the kind of person that shy away from taking the right but hard decision.

No one is saying the decision is wrong. When mtn car to nigeria,we paid a higher call rate but it wasn't to build their mast and we enjoyed value for money, the same for all the telecom companies.

Why will the electricity companies be shouting they don't have money to put more infrastructure. If they need money, let them go to the stock exchange and do IPO, Nigerians will gladly buy into their companies or let then do private placements and get few investors with required capital to fund their business.

It is rape for us to pay for services not rendered. But the big problem is that theses companies were sold to politicians who no nothing about how to manage business but specialised in using govt to make free money. Tell which disco, genco you know that have built additional facilities outside the ones built By the government, definitely non. Did mtn,Glo,air tel, etisalat wait for you to pay higher tariff before bring mast to your area.

I support the idea of increase in tariff but first things first
1. NERC/govt should remove the fixed charges. In my opinion, its a way of giving phcn easy money.its removal will keep them on their toes to provide devices but if its left, they won't be bothered an inch cos they know, weda I give them light or not my 700naira is constant.

2. Mandate all discos to provide prepaid meters.
Even with all this shout of we don't have money, there are several investors willing to take up the business should they drop it,but they won't because its is gold mine.
If you give me prepaid meter,I'll care less if light spoil and phcn doesn't come to fix it. Who's loosing.....definitely them, no more fixed charge and my meter isn't reading self. But with what nerc has done,we have successfully given them license to continue to over bill consumers with estimated bills at an added coat for no reason

3. Increase the tariff

Having said all this, nerc and govt can go ahead and increase tariff, Nigerians will worry less.
I have a prepaid meter in the studio I live in,I have bought 3000naira credit since October @188units. All the appliances in my house works and just today, I have over a hundred unit left after 5months.

That's what prepaid meter can do.

Fashola should do the right thing
NERC should do the right thing.
Our Lazy Senators and Reps should call NERC to order.
We say no to tariff increase till all Nigerians get a prepaid meter. That's the way to go.

Point of correction sir, they are not begging but imposing. Let the current owners of discos and gencos pull out if they are not interested.

As for finding money, that's simple enof. Fashola himself mention it last month at PENCOM conference in Abj that investors can tap into pension fund in Nigeria which is over $1trillion as loans, they will gladly provide it at a premium.

When Akpabio needed money to develop akwa ibom state,he floated bond for the state which people bought into. Ask Aliko how he raises money to start up new empires in his manufacturing line. Do you eveen know that most of his businesses have very little infrastructure in place before IPO/private placement are done .

We refuse to fund these electricity companies, govt gave them everything they have. They should grow up. Raise IPO OR PRIVATE placements from the Nigerian stock exchange, provide services that's needed and we will pay higher tariff

Most Nigerians will agree with me that among the current ministers,Fashola is one that that stands out and with him in this current cabinet, a lot of us have great optimism that at least he will deliver.
In fact, Buhari's exclusive trust and believe in him made him to attach a combination of portfolios to him, believing that once he can deliver, then his administration would receive a lot of applause. It is worth mentioning that Fashola's success can earn Buhari a return ticket.

However, the recent increase in electricity tariff is not only shocking, but heart rending.
What went wrong?who advice him?who has brainwashed our guy? is there something at the presidency that makes people with good intention to begin to think upside down? Would Fashola in his smart reasoning ability have taken this, if it has been proposed in the last administration?does it make sense at all?
How on earth will the government increase Tariff for no light?are we not already paying more than what we get?Why don't the tell us that once we start receiving light on an average of 12 hours per day, then the Tariff of that area, region or Zone will be increased.?

Something has gone wrong! If even Fashola can confidently think like this, then we need an emergency prayer.

They should deliver service first before increasing Tariff. We are currently paying more than we are getting. And yet they are forcing us to pay more again for a futuristic promise. We need to occupy Nigeria for this.

There is nothing wrong with Fashola, but there something wrong with your and your not well though assertions.

1. The DISCOs have zero capacity to deliver good services because they can not upgrade and expand because they can not access finance in form of bank loans since the banks are refusing to extend credit facilities to the DISCOs.

2. Fasola is basically telling you the sad truth, the DISCOs can not deliver without funds coming from either the banks or the general public so since the banks have refused, the next option is the consumers.

3. It's not a good situation for Nigerians, but we have no choice but to swallow the bitter pill by paying.

4. You still live in a country where Banks finds it easy and profitable to loan money to generator importers and not DISCos.

Fashola is the least of your worries and if you like pay or don't pay, it's your choice to remain in darkness.

There is plenty wrong with Fashola, the other 35 former state governors and their boot-suckers aka political jobbers like you.
Did he say this about the DEREGULATION of the downstream sector and COMPLETE removal of subsidy that would have turned expenditure on subsidy into INCOME to the federal, state and affected LGAs in the form:

- licensing fees to import fuel and (later) establish refineries.
- taxes from the refineries,
- excise duty from the refineries
- taxes, levies, rates etc from the EMPLOYEES and affiliated businesses to the refineries.

I know that your (and your paymasters) selfish GREED will not allow you see beyond your nose.
While initial hike in fuel price would have occurred with increasing competition the price would have come down drastically by now instead of the 50 kobo reduction in the face of over 60% crude oil price crash. The same thing happened with mobile telecommunication with Glo's arrival, not so

don't believe that lie that Nigeria is broke, am not against taxation, the government knows what to do and how to manage the available funds.

1. A close study of the budget shows you that the government is not ready to change, political class still want to recover what they spent during campaign.
Have you not noticed hidden funds in the budget, lots of repetition of items, hike of prices of items. Desperate times requires desperate measures but not taxation. The national assembly has car allowance but Still allocated 3billion for new cars for themselves. Some ministries have increased their wage bill, pls when did the federal civil service recruit.

Right in front of our face, the minister for health said the budget before Senate is not the one he prepared, what does that sound like to you. I can tell you, not only his ministry was tempered with.

just check out what they added, a few billion and million naira here and there i can tell you, it can do a lot in construction of roads.

The national Assembly should be placed on minimum wage too, and some of those needless allowance cut off. you will be surprised the amount of money that will be recovered.

Civil service is very corrupt, TSA will help control leakages but More still needs to be Done, they are top government officials collecting more than their salary, they add ghost names, and names of their children in payrolls even people that have died, are still being credited. someone is stealing all these.

if all the leakages are blocked, at least to an extent, silly allowance cut off, Nigeria will recover a lot of money.

FYI, there is nothing like past government, government is a continuous thing and the same thieves are steal in charge.

let me tell you what the tarriff is for, they increased tarrif so that they can raise money to develop their capacity to provide services, which you will be required to pay.
When you start business do you ask your customers to give you money to buy AC and furnish your office so that your customers will enjoy??

Or you source for funds furnish your office and add it to the price of the service you render.

This is what They are trying to do, collect money from you and use it to invest so As to make more money, remember this is no longer a government property, it is owned by private thieves.

All the power station, substation, gas pipelines etc were still but With taxpayers money, they were also given 300billion naira to start up.

All these our money, yet they increase tariffs, where are we heading …

When we told them that Fashola is over-hype, they rained abuses and insults on us that we were only jealous of his achievements. Well, they say the leopard can't change its skin. The thing is, most people were carried away by his well articulated words, polished manners and public composure that they felt he was different from the lots. All was simply a deceit, a make believe that they knew the people will buy.

His true nature will be unmasked soon enough for all to know. Neither did he care about Lagos or Lagosians but how he can become a powerful political broker to be reckoned with in Nigeria. He's not different from the regular politician that's greedy, power hungry and desperate. Analyse his actions and comments when he was governor; they were elitist in nature. He's a capitalist at heart and believes that nothing should be offered for free no matter how essential it's. There is no poor man in his lexicon. Find out the state of our primary and secondary schools in Lagos and you will be shocked the level of decay for a state with the highest IGR and debt in the country. Uncompleted projects are scattered across the length and breadth of the state. How people came about that he's the reference point when it comes to good government in Nigeria beats my imagination.

I'm not surprise by his action in increasing the electricity tariff and I obviously expect more.
