According to Bishop Onah, money and what money can buy
seem to be all that matter to Ndigbo.

Most Rev Godfrey Igwebuike Onah, the Catholic Bishop of
Nsukka, has criticized the Igbo people for their unbridled quest
for money and the attitude of “only money counts”.
Vanguard reports that the Catholic cleric spoke about the
degeneration of the Igbos while delivering the 33rd public
lecture of the Federal University of Technology in Owerri, titled
“Intellectualism and the Development of a People” on Tuesday,
February 9.

According to Onah, money and what money can buy seem to
be all that matter to Ndigbo.

“Even our proverbial egalitarianism and republicanism seem to
have disappeared as the super-rich became the owners of the
community and their praise singers remind those who were in
doubt that the community or town, indeed belonged to some
people,” he said.

The cleric recalled that before the Nigeria-Biafra war, the
intellectual was the pride of the Igboman; however, everything
changed when the war came.

“Then came the war, the blockade, the starvation, the
surrender, the humiliation and the economic emasculation.
Despite the beautiful slogan of no victor, no vanquished, there
was and still is, a clear plan to crush the presumably rebellious
Igbo spirit and, thus, shatter the myth of the resilient
Igboman,” he noted.

The fiery cleric further recalled that at the end of the war, the
battle of Ndigbo was for survival in “a Nigeria that neither
wanted them in its fold nor would it let them go”.

He noted that the post war government stripped them to the
bare skin of all the material wealth they had acquired before
the war.

Having analyzed the way most political office holders were
selected in Igboland and what they did with the common
patrimony when they were in office, Onah concluded that
Ndigbo have sold their birthrights to those who have the hard
currency to spray.

“Before long, the only money counts attitude found its way into
the precincts of the churches and, through harvests, bazaars
and the unending fund raising programmes for the
innumerable church projects, it gradually moved into the
sanctuary,” he added.

Meanwhile, the special assistant to Muhammadu Buhari on
media and publicity, Femi Adesina, has stated that the
president loves the Igbos in Nigeria.

To prove his point Adesina recalled 2003 when Buhari ran for
political office.

“When the president ran for political office in 2003, who was
his running mate? Dr Chuba Okadigbo. And in 2007? Chief
Edwin Ume-Ezeoke. If he hated Igbos would he run with them?
That shows you the respect and the regard he has for Igbos, it
was political reality that compelled him to come south-west in
2011 and in 2015,” he said.

Don't quote the Bible out of context. The Bishop criticized some Igbo people for their "unbridled quest for money.".

Go back and read this verse of scripture. 1 Timothy 6 v9 - But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
