ZombieNation: No matter how much those nations desire to scale down the size of the army, the armed forces of Nigeria a nation of 170 million people is well too little at 100,000 men We also need to drastically increase our police force to match our population, the move to delegate civil duties such as state road patrol eg to LASTMA, Civil defence etc can reduce the dependency on the police who have more pressing issues. We can also reduce need for a large standing force by giving young citizens the opportunity to engage in 1-3 years service instead of NYSC for instance 2 Likes 1 Share |

But how is this possible in the light of outright dismissal of its personnel as it involves disciplinary punishment.Several BN in Maiduguri have made dismissal a viable routine in military routine. |

IbnSultaan: Some people have forgotten that Cameroon have a dictator facilitated and imposed by US and France, there is also the french influence in Chad, north of that is the Mali and Kanye situation which is not scaling down anything. Lybian small arms are flowing into Chad at an alarming rate and that would cause so much trouble in the future for a secular country which has grand African desires. 1 Like |

Obiagelli: Excellently correct. Even if we recruit a million soldiers, we will continue to have problems of insecurity as long as we have centralization of police apparatus like ours. We keep underestimating the importance and effectiveness of community or state policing. Good government will work out on the areas of threats and explore the opportunities therein. |

idupaul: You and ibnsultaan are both military illiterate. Do Switzerland have a standing military.? No Why is it that no nation threatens/threatened her including Hitler Germany.? Compulsory military training You don't need a large army to defend a nation. Give all your citizens military training and when the need to go to war arises, you call them to defend the nation. So tell your dull President to make military weapons training for NYSC compulsory so that they won't be need to maintain a large army and if war arises, we can raise a large army to win the war within few weeks after which everyone goes back to his normal life. > 1 Like 1 Share |

IbnSultaan: Africa is burning and if Nigeria wants to realize it's potential we can't close our eyes to this sad reality, Mugabe and Biya would be dead in 10 years probably less and that can spell a lot of trouble and instability for Africa, Lybia continues to implode and Egypt are yet to stabilize. Kenya would have a tough time steming the advance of their new found terrorism , we need that 200,000 force, it does not need to be a standing army, we can operate a Army reseve system, or something similar to US where soldiers can do tour missions. 2 Likes |

ZombieNation: You should rather educate yourself before you mislead others with your cheap access to the Internet. Your America gods could not do the job in Iraq with a button as you want all to believe. With all their tech ISIS is still in operation. What you don,t know don't comment on. ITK. It is not your father's sorry ass that will be used to fund the expansion. And your equipment must also be matched by requisite manpower idiot. Half baked educationists always comparing Nigeria with America. Check out the statistics between these two countries and see why we are proud to be Nigerians. For a start, one state i.e. Texas is as large as Nigeria and they have 50 Buffon. America this America that. 1 Like |

What could be more stupid than this? The emphasis now should be on expanding and re-orientating the police force, not increasing the number of military personnel in the country. What are those guys actually doing sef? Seriously? Even 100,000 is too much. Their idleness is why they have all the time on their hands to bully the same paople who pay their salaries. You want to contain a protest, you deploy soldiers. Wetin concern soldier concern civilian protest? I keep saying it, the best way forward in this country is zero-military. We won't be the first to try it and we certainly won't be the last. 3 Likes |
