FORMER President Olusegun Obasanjo awarded the Abuja Rail Project in 2007 with neither a design nor a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), according to the Senate Committee on Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The then Minister of FCT and current governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, was said to have signed the contract based on an uncalculated estimate. These senators, particularly Dino Melaye does not do his home well before running to 'catch thief'. It was the Yar'Adua administration that reviewed upward the railway project, which jacked up the costs and not Obasanjo. As for the design, I think it is laughable that one will believe that there was not design before the project commenced. Also, if there was no MOU, how did the Yar'Adua government got to know the terms of the contract which he later reviewed upward? That was how he raised a false alarm over REMITA without doing the necessary background check, hence the embarrassment it caused the country.
