President Obasanjo replaced but did not sack Aviation Minister Babalola Borishade, following a string of air crashes that have claimed hundreds of lives in just about one year.
No reason was given for the reshuffle, Babalola Borishade was redeployed to head the Culture and Tourism Ministry, and the minister of culture and tourism, Femi Fani-Kayode, was moved to aviation.

What does Fani-Kayode know about airplanes. The aviation minister has nothing to do with the crash. It's a private sector matter that should be handled by insurance and civil cases, rather than meaningless political acrobatics.

That is what I've been telling people why not stick with the devil you know and reprimand him, now we have a novice stooge heading the department. Politics is a dirty game i tell you.

I'm very happy with this move. I fully support OBJ's admin decision for the first time.
Infact the candidate selected, Femi Fani-Kayode happens to be one of my boys. I think he's the right fit for the position and expect nothing, but excellent performance from him.

The decision to replaced the aviation minister is a fantastic message to the rest of the ministers, if you can not do your job by closely monitoring the day to day activities, we will find someone else who is competent enough to replace you. Enough is enough, minister position is not a position of a king, the position is replaceable at any time.

I'm sick and tired of these big wig incompetent folks who see or think their position is an honorary position; a position that is not legally enforceable. It is time to send messages to the rest. This is a serious matter; Nigerian federal government top positions are not pepper soup. We are not going to tolerate stupidity and incompetency at any level anymore.

These leaders are not dedicated or committed to their positions at all; and I think it is time to make them understand that their positions are not only for them to sit their fat behind in their living room, calculating how much money is available for them to steal.

If we see failure, we must make changes. This is how it is all over the world.
Please, stop crying and allow the minister to sit down somewhere. He had he's chance, but he did not perform.

Bravo to you, OBJ

In as much i detest Fani because of his loquacious and garrulous tendencies i believe that he would do well in his new posting.Eton and Oxbridge educated and a scion of a popular Ile -ife family.he knows his onions. It should no longer be business as usual in the aviation ministry and its parastatals and Fani would not be concerned whose ox is gored. That for sure i can say from observing him.He would spare no expense in clamping down on these molue airline operators.Ialso happen to know that of all the ministers with OBJ- he apart from El-Rufai are the only ones with business in ministerial quarters. The others as at best a let down.Just watch and see.

@Lewa,
I totally disagree with you here. I, on the other hand, do not expect the much desired change in the aviation sector with Fani-Kayode in charge. The above quotation does not reflect his capabilities but rather how he got to be a special adviser / minister in the first place: his surname. This is one very immature, garulous individual with more mouth than sense; I will rather look at his 'history' in administration of OBJ to project what his likely performance would be.
A hot-headed, uncouth youth-like man with an 'attack-dog' mentality is not what the aviation sector need; but a level headed professional who understands the power-play in the ministry and can set a goal and achieve it. Can somebody kindly tell us what has been Fani-Kayode's achievement or experience in public administration other than blind loyalty to 'Mr President'. That does not make a good manager, in fact I expect more 'wahala' between him and aviation sector stakeholders.
Anyway, he already has a ready excuse for not achieving anything: "We did not have enough time to implement the changes" because he will be gone in May 2007.

Within a short span of time, Borishade originally the Minister of Education has changed his ministry. He has fumbled as far as I know and I think many Nigerians think so as well.

The question is 'Must he be there?'. Why is Obasanjo, who appoints ministers, toying with different ministries in an attempt to find the one Borishade will do well in. Does that mean Borishade studied Education, Aviation and now, Culture and Information in the university? Why is it so difficult for Obasanjo to remove him? Has the fate of this country, Nigeria become 'Trial and Error'. If so, it is very sad.

Is the position of being a minister one man's job? Is that Borishade's father's sit? I think he should go. We do not need the lives of more innocent people toyed with or even wasted in the long run. He has tried his best and it brought little or no results at all.

Borishades replacement is good riddance to bad rubbish.why didnt OBJ just sack the old man.Its eitha bad luck or plain incompetence but that guy isnt cut out for a ministerial job.Yawa seems to follow his old ass whereva he goes. From education to aviation, still the same old story, As for fani kayode,Baba must have envisaged another crash b4 may 2007 hence the redeployment of the trash talker in anticipation of givin us lenghty sermons when it occurs!

Havila,
i  for one share your sentiments about the 'attack dog' mentality of Fani. However must it be known that that was the job he was recruited for in the first place-to cast aspersion and deride OBJ's hate club. Naija's history isn't replete without mentioning those who have played this ignoble role-Wada Nas, Comrade Uche Chukwumerije, Chuba Okadigbo, to name a few.Yes the administration would leave in May, but that doesn't stop anyone from implementing new policies and mapping out new stategies for the ministry. The problem is after he leaves what happens.Again the aviation ministry and airline operators are responsible for these genocide in our airspace. Let's hope that he summons enough courage to deal with this menace and not succumb as Bola Ige did to the "generator mafia'. Aviation specialists have been calling for one of their own to head the ministry, but alas some of them made Nigeria Airways what it is today, some work as consultants to this molue operators, some own these deathtraps called planes and even some work with the various aviation  regulating parastatals. However not one of these critics has hads the temerity to address the issue-corruption in high places. Please read Reuben Abati's piece in www.guardiannewsngr.com
