Its awkward for a leader to say no ‪#‎ ForexForEducati on‬for our kids schooling abroad when his own kids school abroad!
Mr. President, these are people who voted for you. You ought to be more sensitive about their need for #ForexForEducation.
This year all tiers of govt, including the Presidency, will spend billions importing cars. If we can afford that, cant we afford #ForexForEducation
What do we expect parents whose kids have spent 2 years in schools abroad. Should their kids drop out after going so far? #ForexForEducation
Its not a matter of "those who can afford it". The parents aren't saying they cant afford it. They're saying they cant get #ForexForEducation.
I am an advocate for ‪#‎ BuyNaijaToGrowT heNaira‬but I accept that there are some courses that we dont offer #ForexForEducation
If we can provide foreign exchange to those going on pilgrimage, surely we can provide #ForexForEducation. Education is a priority!
These policies will have the opposite effect of what you intend. Nigerians will take their funds to neighboring nations #ForexForEducation
We as elected representativesof the people must be sensitive to their needs and reflect this sensitivity in policies #ForexForEducation

The silly hypocrite twitter clown in one breath shouts buy naija to grow naija while in another breath is advocating foreign bough education and exportation of our critical Forex.

What's the idea here? We should promote our own local products , but never our educational institutions?

If UI, OAU, UNN and other notable UNI in Nigeria are not good enough for you, source your own foreign bought education funds..

Education in all forms, and I mean ALL FORMS is absolutely non-negotiable.

Read the senators points again and tell me you have something better . . .

As we speak, there over 700,000 students from the US, UK, Russia, Germany, Thailand, France, and e.t.c in China, Singapore, studying.

Millions of students from all over the world in the UK, the US, France, Australia, Canada, Russia, Germany, and e.t.c. foreign education is a form of education no-country can do without, it's actually highly encouraged; mind you, this parents are not even asking for sponsorship, all they ask for is, to be able to pay 199 to a dollar, the same dollar they used to pay N120-N155 to a dollar for at the time some of their wards enrolled.
Is that too much to ask for when Dangote could get funds for foreign factories, the senators could get up to $100,000 each for some extra imported cars?!

Some countries pay up to $30,000 to their citizens who are willing to go study abroad . . . even though we can't do that now, is accessing Forex at the official rate to much too ask for?

Not to mention a good percentage of those foreign students would not even consider foreign education if there were no ASUU, NASUU, NLC, and whatever strikes -- making the victims pay for the failures of government.

That's how they roll.

Buhari simply exhibited the 'ranka dede'/'almajiri' culture prevalent in his arewa part of Nigeria. He couldn't help it. ‎

He and his elite class have ensured that education, enlightenment and exposure, the kind that are being taking for granted in the south, are only for the privileged few in the north.

The belief has been nurtured over there for decades. Only the children of the privileged should go to school or go abroad to study. The rest are most unfortunate, they are the scums of the earth who could be given crumbs from their table. They are at the mercy of the big men up there.

They have used religion to entrench the culture. The religious belief that says God only is responsible for human's fate without him (wo/man) exercising his freewill option, or having any say in how s/he chooses to live.

While some of these arewa leaders have been trying to shake off the mentality, Buhari has shown himself incapable of changing this entrenched mind-set.

That is why you see a lot of youths up there not interested in education. They have been psychologically battered by people like Buhari to continually think that it is their 'destiny' to remain unlearned, unschooled and uneducated.

That is what Buhari is exporting to other parts of the country. To those who have a firm believe that education is a leveler of status and privileges. To those who have the convictions that today's sacrifices are temporary, which will eventually pay off tomorrow.

Even though he himself has displayed a general apathy and even disdain for self improvement, he is not immune to the elitist culture among his class. Grooming their children to continue the subjugation of the 'unfortunate' lots is what they seek to pursue vigorously.

Getting foreign currencies at the CBN official rates for their children's education abroad while the 'unfortunate' low-class people's children are exposed to the vagaries of unstable parallel exchange rates is just one of the stories.

Even if some courses are not better studied abroad, why are Buhari's children treated differently from others in allocation of forex for studies abroad? And why is Buhari openly promoting such?

Is that not corruption?

Ok, folks are now looking for official exchange rate from the government to pay school fees. Meanwhile, the president has been called all sorts of names for holding the official rate at N197/$. What if he had acceded to the pressure and devalued to N300/$? Would they not buy at that rate to send their wards to school abroad?
---
Nigeria is, probably, the only country in the world where citizens feel a sense of entitlement demanding for Forex from the government. Nobody is saying Nigerians should not send their wards abroad for foreign education, what the government is saying is that the available dollars is so small that they cannot meet most forex demand anymore (including school fees). Nigerians who need dollars for school fees should source it elsewhere outside government Reserves. That's exactly how I source dollars for my personal use. Nobody should feel more entitled to access official forex more than others. The government should be allowed to prioritize as it fits their economic & developmental agenda.

So Buhari's children are expected from foreign restriction. The Senate made valuable points and u can't find holes in them. We all know that most Nigerians would opt for uk university over nigerian. In uk engineering is 3yrs. In nigeria after 5yrs someone is bot sure of graduating due to strikes and lack of world class facilities.

Any former Nigerian president can afford dollars even @ N400/$ to send their kids to school overseas.
---
I understand that most Nigerians would prefer a UK education because of quality and time, but the reality is that government does not have enough dollars to give to those private citizens. Just like every other citizen who cannot access official dollars, those who wish to send their wards to school abroad should source their dollars from independent sources.

Senator BMB was one of those who called out the president for not devaluing the official exchange rate. Now that the president stuck to his guns and resisted devaluation, he now wants to access that cheap rate.

God bless you. The same people that criticised Buhari for not devaluing the naira are the same people crying that they are not getting naira at N197 to pay for schooling abroad.
I am still expecting an epistle from our chief economist, tonybarcanista as to why Buhari is clueless because he has refused to value (as against devalue) the naira for foreign education, a point diametrically opposite his stance that Buhari is dull for not devaluing the naira.

If Buhari had devalued the naira to say N300 to the dollar, how would people in foreign schools funded their education?
