As Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom battles to ensure the return of sustainable peace in the war-torn Agatu communities of the state following invasion of the area by suspected Fulani insurgents, the invaders last Thursday extended their attack to nine villages in the homestead of former governor of the state, Dr. Gabriel Suswam, leaving at least 40 people dead.
Many people are reported wounded, several houses as well as farmlands produce burnt to ashes, while hordes of other people are still missing just as the entire has been deserted.
The recent attack by the herders on innocent farmers in the area is coming barely 10 days after the insurgents invaded the densely populated Ukemberagya community in Logo Local Government Area killing one person.
‘New Telegraph’ learnt that trouble started when the Fulani herdsmen drove their cattle for grazing on the compound of one Mr. Orvesen of Tswarev community last Thursday.
It was gathered that attempts by the Tiv villagers to drive the cows out of the compound was resisted by the herders who insisted on feeding their animals on the dried cassava, a development that sparked off a sharp disagreement between the two parties.

Buhari doesn't give a mess. Let them just kill a cow from his ranch and see him in action. That will be when they become criminals. That is how much he values the life of some citizens. I'm forced to ask, are the Benue people among the 5%? Were they just important to him when he needed their votes? These are human lives, we are talking about here and I blame him for always keeping silent and giving out an I don't care attitude over the actions of the Fulanis against others.

A pity there's no farmers organization. If such a thing existed, farmers throughout the realm could put down the hoe in solidarity with those afflicted by this Terrorists/herdsmen for just one day. The government would get the message in more ways than one.

Nigerians keep complaining about political biases, for instance in this case of Fulani Headsmen, that Buhari is reluctant to act because he sympathies with the herdsmen. Whether or not such machinations exists, ordinary Nigerians are missing a trick by not organizing themselves in national reach Unions. Ones, i stated that Nigerians need to look to their culture for some answers. The ijaws, i think, used to have lodges. They'd have Lodges of artisans, warriors and so on. Nigerian people need to organize themselves in huge powerful unions/lodges if they want to influence central power. It is this inability of the people to set aside ethnic dirences in order to form these huge national pressure groups that lead to the frustrated adopting the cruder option of armed militancy.

If in solidarity with those farming communities being annihilated, Nigerians everywhere stopped buying beef for a month, there'd be affective poitical action.
