The Nigerian Senate has applauded President Muhammadu Buhari and the Armed Forces for the conspicuous defeat of Boko Haram.

The Senate gave the encomium yesterday March 9, 2016, while debating a motion of “the need to urgently flush out Boko Haram insurgents re-assembling in Taraba and halt the ongoing silent genocide in the state.”

Making an additional recommendation, Senator Muhammadu Adamu Aliero of Kebbi Central argued that the December deadline set by President Buhari to oust Boko Haram from the country is finally met by the military.

“The government has succeeded in taming the Boko Haram. We should commend the President and the military for the manner they have reduced the activities of the terrorist group,” he said.

He recommended that the apex body of the National Assembly officially commend the Grand Commander and the Armed Forces for the fantastic feat.

This position comes in consonance with the earlier claim by the Minister of Information Culture and Tourism, Lai Mohammed, that the Boko Haram sect has been tactically crushed and left with impotent capacity to launch notorious attacks unlike the attainable of the past.

In a like manner, President Muhammadu Buhari in a recent interface with Aljazeera in Doha, Qatar, emphasised undauntedly that he has not failed against Boko Haram.

“When we came in, Boko Haram was effectively controlling 14 out of 774 local governments. They named themselves a Caliphate. But now they are not holding any place in Nigeria,” Buhari said.

Concurring that the terrorists might still have technological capacity though, Buhari stated that they can no longer launch organised attacks on Police Stations, military institutions, and government headquarters. He ascertained that the insurgent group has been weakened.

Immediately fighting Boko Haram stopped being a fight against the north, victory was expected. People then knew who their enemies were and collectively fought them without crying crime against the north and humanity.
