“Our country shall become one nation bound in Freedom, Peace and Unity. I believe in Nigeria.”

Now, both walls of my eyes struggle for clarity As they brim with tears.
Oh - the nation in our National Song has been robbed!
Now, all that remain are the ashes --of a desolate and critically ill land
Burned and scorched by careless souls,
Who have forgotten the good old ways and neglected those ancient landmarks from the fathers.

What heritage have we now for the children of our womb?
What hope have we for those innocent unborn generations?
Overtaken and ridden by the ill cultured behaviors of launderers,
We’ve been numbed as a people.
Clothes taken from our bodies and vulnerability is no more something to be searched for in our land.
Bread taken from the less privileged,
Hope and confidence beaten down by the visionless scoundrels,
Who in their closed hearts, know not what goes on among their people?

We struggle for survival and pant for the air we once freely had.
The milk and cake won to us in sweats of great heroes of ages past
Have been spitted and trodden upon.
Now tell me, what should be the heart wishes of our desperate people
If not the curses already built on their lips from desperation and anger.

Yet I would say, clean up the lips that are stained with aggression
And dust off your jackets.
We have a hope as a people and the change
We’ve all waited for cometh soon.
As a people, we’ll pick up the stones
And rebuild our broken walls.

Once again, water shall come back to our taps,
Safety shall return on our roads,
Smiles shall be seen on the faces of our children
And our hope for a nation we’ve always dreamed of shall be restored.
Our country shall again become one nation bound in
Freedom, Peace and Unity.

I believe in Nigeria.
