"Courage is not the absence of fear but rather the judgment that something else’s more important than fear." – Ambrose Redmon

The Buhari-led All Progressive Congress (APC) government in Nigeria has its job well cut out, the only and major problem is that perhaps it does not know that.

Mr. Buhari had made an attempt for the office of the president three consecutive times, and won on the fourth try. Not many gave him and his APC led coalition a chance.

However, he won, and yes he won on the following premise-very strong public approval, an electorate who had been sold the “CHANGE MANTRA” and a reluctant sitting President who relinquished power without a whim.

Now with power firmly in his hands, every passing day brings reality home that the continuous pursuit for power may have left the Daura born General with very little in terms of what he wants to achieve. The truth remains that Mr. Buhari loves his country, and is patriotic about the change he wants to bring to the Nigerian people, state and polity.

Sadly, drawing the lines, WDnews recalls the delay in appointing ministers, the final appointment, and the poor quality of the appointees in discharging their duties several months after, is an indictment. On the same line is the fact that months after with the nation reeling under economic hardship there is no economic blueprint regarding where the nation is headed.

It is no news that the Nigerian populace has been told to endure an excruciating fuel crisis, the electricity sector only last week brought out the truth in the president when he said, “We are at loss, over what to do with the electricity sector.”

This brings to mind the need for caution when promissory notes are issued by politicians, from the N5000 for unemployed, to the free meal for children, a lot seems to be crumbling for the sleeping giant of Africa.

WDNews believes it is time for some “owning-up”. Just because your job sits at the top of an organization chart, there’s a reality to how groups work that is often a surprise to people.” We see that Mr. President is getting to realize that. “In all leadership roles, there is an informal dependence on other people that is in many ways much more important and more powerful than the power or the authority that is implied by an organization chart that puts your job at the top.”

For our President it should now be about responsibility not power. Too many leaders get caught up in thinking about power rather than their responsibility to those they lead.

Along with getting the most out of subordinates, though, a leader does have to get the group focused, even if specific goals are unclear. Mr. Buhari “You have to show that you know the way, even if you have no idea what to do.”

Indeed, corruption is being fought, and it is a positive development for a nation with so many failures but largely succeeds in corrupt practices. But other sectors of the economy is on a fretful, soaring food prices and crumbling industries are not helping matters.

Strategy and specifics

“A group needs a strategy, and it needs a framework.” Fighting corruption is not enough, someone needs to take responsibility. Nigerians want a push in the right direction; they want this government to bring a discipline and a focus that’s extremely valuable.

The President’s aides and foot soldiers have a lot to do with how the current Nigeria acts, but they have very little to do with how it thinks or how it feels. To do that, they all, including the president have got to pull Nigeria along, and that takes communication — a lot of communication, not the propaganda that got the power.

Mr. Buhari needs to explain his vision with specifics, rather than buzzwords, it’s no good talking about corruption and letting Nigerians know about the rot, but it is becoming a “sing-song no one wants to dance”

Earning trust

Mr. Buhari has earned the trust of Nigerians, trust and respect is crucial in a nation such as this, and while he may be loosing very little of it, the fact remains that currently, Nigerians are not inspired, not committed and not motivated. It’s our President’s job to instill confidence in us.

We need to stop the sycophants. “When you’re at the top, people don’t always tell you what you need to hear. Indeed, that’s probably the single biggest blind spot or difficulty.”

WDNews however thinks maybe, the President is not asking the right questions, because that can help a leader more than dictating policy, such as, “Why do we do it that way?”

Invite open criticism

“You have to invite open criticism.” The current trend is that all that criticize the President is a ‘wailer’. Truth is that “You have to be willing to invite open criticism.” That can be done by using such techniques as town hall meetings, confidential surveys or even simply walking around and talking with Nigerians in Abuja for example.

It’s not about you

Mr. Buhari, it is not about you, it’s about us. It’s about a relationship between you and them. That’s why a few people warned you that you were about to take on the most difficult job on the planet.

Mr. Buhari, Nigerians voted you, and in nine months, it has been more turmoil than happiness for them. We know it can be better, so kindly apologize and start again because you have some three more years and you can still bring that CHANGE!

OK Na.

PMB has apologized where he needs to, which is the fuel crisis. Apart from that, no other area he needs to apologize for.

Apologizing should be one step, acting accordingly should be another. There's too many things going on right now in the country & the President really isn't doing a lot to address these issues..

This govt is hopeless! they have no clue as to what it means to lead, imagine what the Adesina said today about the electricity problem in the country. it just shows the lack of direction our leaders have. PMB has a lot to apologize for because he is taking this country backwards and this so called promised "change" is a negative one

The regime really seem confused. First, Kachikwu said he was not a magician & he didn't have a magic wand to end the fuel scarcity. Then Femi Adesina came out to say Nigerians complaining about electricity should go out and fight pipeline vandals & last was Abike Dabiri telling a Nigerian in diaspora, who complained about the present situation in Nigeria "Who's asking to come back to Nigeria?"..
I MEAN!!!!

Exactly! Notice how Madam Oby & her flock have gone mute on the Chibok Girls situation. It goes to show you that it was just part of a ploy to frustrate the past administration, it was all political!
