Iwobi's form rightly should worry any fan.I can't understand the overindulgence he gets from Nigerians.

Rohr set to invite Italy-based striker, worries over Iwobi

April 24, 2018
Festus Abu

Alex Iwobi’s current poor form is a major worry for Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr, our correspondent has learnt.

The 21-year-old forward, who burst onto the scene in 2015 and enjoyed starting roles in Arsenal’s first squad until last season, has copped heavy criticism this term because of his inconsistency and paltry form.

Iwobi, who sent many Super Eagles fans into a frenzy when he switched his international allegiance to Nigeria from England in 2017, has only scored two Premier League goals in 21 appearances.

And his poor form has also sparked concerns that the former England junior international’s inclusion in Nigeria’s Russia 2018 World Cup squad may not benefit the Eagles much.

With Kelechi Iheanacho struggling at Leicester City, our correspondent learnt that Rohr fears that he could have China-based striker Odion Ighalo as the only trusted top striker in Russia.

A source close to the team told our correspondent that the former Gabon manager is considering his options and has decided to invite Italy-based forward Simeon Nwankwo, who has been knocking on the national team’s door by scoring eye-catching goals in the Serie A.

The 25-year-old Crotone striker scored his fourth Serie A goal in the 2-1 defeat of Udinese at Stadio Friuli on Sunday to help pull Gli Squali (The Sharks) a bit clear of relegation zone.

Nwankwo, who was on the books of Portuguese club Gil Vicente from 2013 to 2016, stepped into the spotlight on April 18, after he latched on a loose ball to bury a spectacular overhead kick from inside the box into the net to level the score in their 1-1 draw against Italian powerhouse Juventus at Ezio Scida.

Sources close to Rohr said the former Burkina Faso coach, who has been monitoring the player’s performance in recent times, “is highly impressed by Nwankwo’s style of play”.

Spokesman for the senior national team Toyin Ibitoye refused to confirm nor deny if the Crotone star would be invited by Rohr to fight for his place in the World Cup squad.

He said, “Rohr hasn’t named his provisional or final squad so all players are on his radar. We are happy that many of our players are playing well and scoring too.”

Sources close to Rohr are who and who?

Not one quote from Rohr, but in tbaba'a Rohr quotes, same man said he wasn't worried about his forwards

Only Punch know where they got such weightless news. Disappointing

At the end of the season you will have about 20 players with about 12 ➕ goals. My optimism was for him to be in that group of 20.

I still think he is an excellent striker and brings more to the table than Ighalo and KC currently for now. Unfortunately he has not picked the SE.

his not better than both of them

How “Nigerian Alves” Musa Mohammed Lost His Way Following Money Inspired Move To Turkey

November 19, 2016

The current search for credible options at right full back by Nigeria would have not been an issue, if former U-17 and 20 captain Musa Mohammed had made the right move.

Offers poured in for the captain after leading his team of 2013 to glory at the U-17 World Youth Championship, but the lure of making more money by his representative from his transfer made them snub european sides who came for him.

” I can tell you confidently that Arsenal and Liverpool were among the first two teams that came for Musa, but a deal couldn’t be reached because what they proposed for the then 16 year old was a developmental deal, but his representatives were on the look out for a big pay”, Mohammed Kabiru, a close family friend told Owngoalnigeria.com.

Known for his ability to dominate the right flank from his full back role, the 20 year old who is very good at set pieces, shone like a million stars for the Nigeria U-20 that won the 2015 African Youth Championship in Senegal with style.

He picked up five assist in the tournament, offers from teams in Belgium, Holland and France poured in but his representatives were once again out for the best transfer fee not the best for his career..

” Offers flooded in even more than his days with the U-17 but still no deal, instead his representative was keen on striking a deal either in Germany or Turkey where the pay is high, no concern or whatsoever about his development”, Kabiru said.

After the 2015 World Youth Championship in New Zealand, he secured a move to Istanbul Basaksehir shunning strong interest from teams in other league, famed for developing young players and the number one motivation was money.

” As painful as it is, he moved to Turkey mainly for the money, today he has made lot of it but if he is not careful, it could be all he will ever make in football. He isn’t playing right now, thanks to connection in high places he is in the Super Eaglea.

You and I know he won’t last in the team unless he sort out his club career and for now, it looks unlikely even in January, am not sure about clubs trying him out. It’s a pity but that is how he lost his way and the Dani Alves tag”.

If Uzoho mans our post and does an outstanding job at the world cup and say we reach the quarter finals or bonus of a semi finals, there definitely be a scramble for his services from top clubs which will be our advantage in the long-term. Rohr is looking and thinking long-term. Uzoho is going to prove all his doubters wrong.

An U17 team pushed to U20 is an U19 team. That age gap will always be there.

And more so when most of your U17 winning team players were 15-16 years olds. You will be carrying a 17/18 years team as an U20. This age difference matters alot.

The U20 team is for players 18-20. If a player falls within this age category why ignore him because he plays in the local league and so you must doubt his age.

Yes U20 is for development and all young players deserve the development whether they were part of the U17 or not.

We have always underrated the Competition at the U20 level which has made it the only age grade competition we are yet to win. And don't tell me about how it is not all about winning but development. Can't you achieve both?

The last U17 that crashed out what has happened to their development? Winning makes your players attractive and candidates for development in good clubs.

chairman the under20 is not for 18- 20, is for players under 20 years, you can't compete if you are 20, Mikel and ogbuke was 18 when he competed and graduated directly from under17, taiwo was added from NPL elkanemi after playing with the famous gabros, meaning Taiwo played for 2 or more seasons in NPL.

Sir do you prefer win at all cost policy and no future for the national team?

WORLD CUP 2018:
Nigeria's 2018 World Cup squad predicted: Who will join Moses & Iwobi in 23-man squad?

The Chelsea and Arsenal men will be joined by a host of Premier League alums in Russia, along with a few more familiar faces
Nigeria qualified for the World Cup in impressive fashion.

The Super Eagles topped a group also featuring Cameroon, Algeria and Zambia, losing just once along the way.
They will subsequently join Tunisia, Morocco, Senegal and Egypt in flying the flag for the African continent in Russia 2018, but who will make Salisu Yusuf's squad?

ON THE PLANE
Nigeria's players tend to be spread all across the globe, but their attacking ranks are packed with talent that will be familiar to English fans.

Indeed, Arsenal's Alex Iwobi leads a group of attackers who are, barring injury, guaranteed to have a seat on the plane to Russia, and all of them have played in England over the last 12 months.

Iwobi has scored twice and provided five assists in the Premier League this season, and will be joined by Leicester City's Kelechi Iheanacho
and his team-mate Ahmed Musa , even though both have struggled to find the back of the net in 2017-18. Iheanacho, once touted as the country's next great hope, has scored just once for Leicester in the league, while Musa was loaned out by the Foxes to CSKA Moscow in January. He has since scored three times.

Chelsea's Victor Moses plays in a more attacking role for his country, despite periodically impressing as a wing-back at Stamford Bridge, while
Odion Ighalo called time on a spell at Watford to join Changchun Yatai in a £20 million deal earlier this year. Five goals in seven games since the move suggests that he is hitting form at the right time as the World Cup looms.

Iheanacho's club-mate Wilfred Ndidi
is also sure of a spot on the plane, having impressed since the departure of N'Golo Kante to Chelsea. Indeed, he has played for the club 32 times in the league alone this season. He will be joined in midfield by Nigeria's current captain, former Chelsea star
John Obi Mikel , now at Tianjin Teda in China, while Ogenyi Onazi , of Trabzonspor, will add to his 50 caps in Russia.

Moses Simon , at the age of 22, is likely to be one of the younger members of the squad after scoring five goals from midfield for Gent this season. Oghenekaro Etebo , of Las Palmas, is the same age as Simon and will also be included barring any late injury.
Another player who will be familiar to English fans is Ola Aina , who is currently on loan at Hull City from Chelsea. He has been ever present for Hull this season and chose to represent Nigeria despite being capped at a number of youth levels by the Three Lions. Leon Balogun , of Mainz, is also set to take a seat, having made 14 Bundesliga appearances this season. William Troost-Ekong , of Bursaspor, and
Brian Idowu - who scored in a recent 4-2 friendly win over Argentina - are also likely to be included in the squad, as is Shedu Abdulahi , a club-mate of Troost-Ekong.

In goal, Nigeria are almost certain to take Ikechukwu Ezenwa - he has won 24 caps, and plies his trade in his native country with Enyimba - and he will be supported by Daniel Akpeyi , who plays in South Africa with Chippa United, and Francis Uzoho , of Spanish side Deportivo Fabril.

POTENTIAL PICKS
Another Chelsea player who has been farmed out on a number of loans is Kenneth Omeruo, who is highly regarded in his native country, and could well end up on the plane to Russia. He has won 36 caps at the age of just 24, and is currently at Kasimpasa in Turkey.

Junior Ajayi has been in fine goalscoring form this season, netting nine times and providing 10 assists for Ahly in Egypt, while Torino's midfielder Joel Obi has found the net five times from midfield, and will be under consideration by manager Yusuf.

Elderson Echiejile , 30, is one of the most experienced players in Nigeria's ranks, winning 60 caps in defence, while John Ugo , at Hapoel Be'er Sheva, has reached the same age but has won just 18 caps to date.

Defender Shehu Abdullahi is in the current squad and will hope for it to stay that way, as will 21-year-old centre-back Chidozie Awaziem . Bursaspor's Mikel Agu has won just four caps, but could become part of his country's defensive thinking after a solid season.

LONG SHOTS
A number of players will still be hoping to claw their way into Yusuf's squad, and they are again dotted all over the globe.

Henry Onyekuru is a name that will be familiar to several European football fans, with Anderlecht regularly featuring in the Champions League, but a serious knee injury has derailed his season and he faces a race to be fit for the World Cup.

Uche Agbo has impressed in defensive midfield for Standard Liege but he is inexperienced at international level, and it remains to be seen if he can usurp more experienced members of the Super Eagles' midfield.

Dele Alampasu , however, may need disaster to strike for him to be included, the goalkeeper unlikely to be preferred to Uzohu, Ezenwa or Akpeyi if the three are fit.
Meanwhile, Stephen Eze has struggled for game time at Lokomotiv Plovdiv, while Ifeanyi Ifeanyi has won over 10 caps and could be included in midfield.

Victor Osimhen is yet another striker prospect to emerge from Nigeria but he has failed to score for Wolfsburg this season in 13 appearances.

CSKA Moscow Coach: My Fight With Musa Led To His Goals

CSKA Moscow head coach Viktor Gancharenko has claimed his recent row with Ahmed Musa is responsible for the Nigeria forward’s rise in form, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Musa, who is on loan at the club from English Premier League club Leicester City, was engaged in a bitter row with Gancharenko after he was substituted early in the second half in a league game against Dynamo.

Both men quickly moved on from the incident after a one-on-one discussion, with Musa now reaping the fruits of that meeting.

He has bagged three goals and two assists in his last three games for CSKA Moscow, including two goals in Sunday’s 2-1 Russian Premier League win against Kuban Krasnodar.

“After I replaced him against Dynamo, we had a tough conversation. I said that he is not my friend, that I want more from him,” Gancharenko said in his post-match conference after the game against Kuban Krasnodar.

“He agreed to work harder and If necessary, we will again engage in a squabble if he fails to up his game.”

The Nigeria international who is expected to make the country’s final 23-man squad to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia has scored three goals in seven league games for CSKA since arriving in January.

I understand players getting mixed up with bad management.

Turkey was a bad move for Muhammad because it set him back. But he has not improved much since.

Bros how will a young player improve in league like Bulgaria and Bosnia, if Mohammed sign for Liverpool or Chelsea he will be loaned to probably Holland league or Belgium league. simple logic... you think Aina or Ebuehi will inprove in such league.

Musa Mohammed scored 2 goals and assisted 5 in that under 17 from right back, with blistering speed and set piece prowess he could have gotten better deal and become a better player.

NFF should setup a sector that will monitor young players management, it will help in development our national team

Well said! Vincent Enyeama is a drama queen and I don't wanna see him in the Super Eagles camp again. I staunchly stood with him throughout the whole drama with Sunday Oliseh. But once Rohr took over, I advised him to pick up the phone and give Rohr a call. I suggested to him that now is the time to bury the hatchet and open a clean slate with Rohr but he adamantly refused. And I did call him again after Carl Ikeme got sick, I pleaded with him to let bygones be bygones. I told him that his country badly needs him now, but all my pleading fell on deaf ears.

So right now, I am not going to Russia with Vincent Enyeama even he's the LAST goalkeeper in the world!

Yeah Mikel and Ogbuke played at 18. Yes as I said before the U20 is for 18-20years olds so they fall in.

The U20 is for players who are 20 and less. Typically 18-20.

Thank God you mentioned Taiwo, cos going by your logic he should never had been given the chance for the "development". Do you know the entire backline of that famous 2005 U20 were never part of the 2003 U17? Dele Adeleye, Monday James, Onyekachi Apam, Kennedy Chinwo, Taiye Taiwo all were not part of the U17.

You cannot parade 16-17 years olds as U20. They are U17.

And who says winning a tournament makes players not to have future with the national team?

I stand for excellence at all levels. No mediocrity. Winning and excellent development. That is the way to go.

chairman the under20 is not for 18- 20, is for players under 20 years, you can't compete if you are 20, Mikel and ogbuke was 18 when he competed and graduated directly from under17, taiwo was added from NPL elkanemi after playing with the famous gabros, meaning Taiwo played for 2 or more seasons in NPL.

Sir do you prefer win at all cost policy and no future for the national team?

Honestly am just seeing this. so much strength from you gal. so much strength and inasmuch as I love u for this I fear you also. you have shown that you could have another side we least expected. a side to love, a side to forget a side to move on. I doff my hat and envy u for this great heart of yours. I'd certainly almost never meet you in life, but I'd remember you for a long time for this.

All I need him for is his set pieces. That boy de play freekick and Pk die.
Wish you can just substitute for setpiece and then you take the person out again - just as they do in nfl for field goals. E for make sense. I expected this boy to be killing it in Bulgaria by now. Expected Ludogorets to be eyeing him by now at least.

He has simply not raised his game well enough as he progresses with age.

U17 performances flatter to deceive a lot of people. Some people here would understand me better now.
