In a recent interview, Westerhof had declared that what the Super Eagles needed after the sack of Stephen Keshi was a foreign coach, a Technical Adviser who will work with a Nigerian coach.

He said: “A coach from Holland or any big European country but not Germany with likes of Berti Vogts, who will spend one week in Nigeria and spend the rest of the year in their native countries. When I was in Nigeria, I discovered Daniel Amokachi in Enugu when Ranchers Bees played a league game with Rangers.

“I walked up to their bus and told him he will be in my (Super Eagles) team, he said which team and I told him right there in the presence of other players, I’m the national team manager but he said he was just 16 years old and I said it didn’t matter.

“Finidi George is a great player, I also was at the stadium when he played for his club and I called him to camp. There were many players like that I brought to Super Eagles camp. So whoever the foreign technical adviser will be, he must be ready to see many of the domestic league games and see how the players are doing and how they play. You don’t stay away from the games and players and hope to have a strong Super Eagles team, no, it can’t happen,” Westerhof stated.

The bolded is my stance. May be Westerhoff is an Internet Certified Coach.

If you are good enough, you are old enough.

David Villa you mean

If not you limited me to just two players I wanted to add him!
Dear Lord! Spain V Paraguay Q/final
Casillas saving a penalty at one end and the straight counter after that save! I was screeching like fairly used tire when Villa took the Paraguayan defenders for a ride and brilliant curled a ball that hit the bar (at this time I was nearly nuts- things was in slow motion) and entered!

When exactly did Clemence Westerhof held this open screening session? Or were you referring to a different Westerhof? Please, you guys should stop all these nonsense because there are people here who actually follow all these things and have been following for the past 15 years as well. I remember correctly that Nigerians started wailing and crying that Westerhof must include Tijani Babangida in the team just because he scored a hat trick in the final friendly game the team played in Nigeria, but Westerhof ignored all that nonsense and went to the World Cup with the team he had.

Nigerians are the most annoying people on the planet. Every single one of them knows better than the coach while there are out there making peanuts while the coaching is raking in millions. Which begs the question, if you actually knows better than the coach, my not go out there and show your stuff? No, they only do their own coaching behind the computer screens. That's why we call them the Internet Certified Coaches (ICC).

Absolutely right, nothing like open screening during Westerhoff period but systematically phases camping than spanned from 1989 - 1994 cos i followed the team passionately even to their official camp site at Papendal in Holland courtesy Segun Odegbami.

Yes a lot craved for inclusion of Tijani Babangida but he was dropped. It was a tough decision by Westerhoff cos Ikpeba was nearly dropped for him but good Ikpeba was part of the team to Afcon 94 and already part of the team and Finidi was in top form so the team did not need Tijani.

Tijani didn't scored any hat trick in his eagles career. The last friendly at home was played in Ibadan against Georgia. The match ended 5-1 with Yekini and Siasia scored a brace apiece and Mutiu Adepoju scored the fifth goal.I remember Rufai was in goal with Eguavoen, Iroha,Uche Okechukwu, Nwanu at the defence, Oliseh and Okocha in the middle, Finidi and Amuneke in the wing and Amokachie and Yekini leading the attack.

AlloyAgu,Uche Okafor,Mike Emenalo,Samson Siasia,Efan Ekoku,Mutiu Adepoju, Victor Ikpeba, Tijani all came in the second half.It was a match that gave Siasia opportunity to reclaim his starting in the XI back and Okocha to the bench at WC.

As you said nothing like open screening cos Westerhoff had good 5 years to build the team which he started with 89 WC qualifier against Cameroon in Yaoundé,Algiers 90,Ecowas cup,Senegal 92,Tunisia 94 and US 94.

I don't think he is ready for the SE. He should make the main Villareal team or a team in la Liga before he should be considered for the SE. This is because Segunda B division is the 3rd tier of la Liga and I can give you many Nigerian players who performed magic in that league but could not make it to the top due to some factors, and even when they made a step or two steps up couldn't perform.

Forget! This is just a league for feeder teams. Hope his team gain promotion to the Secunda division and he gets to perform there too.

He carried his team into La Liga 123. He will be playing in the second tier at worst next season. I have already bowed to the point that he should play U20 first but in my eyes the boy is ready.
