Enyeama, Mikel out

Vincent Enyeama

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama will miss the last four games of the season with a knee injury , his Lille coach Franck Passi said on Thursday, AFP reports .

Enyeama, who represented Nigeria at the 2002, 2010 and 2014 World Cups , is his country’s most capped player with more than 100 appearances for the Super Eagles . He was injured against Rennes on April 15 .

Passi said Enyeama, 34 , would undergo an operation next week to “ clean up ” the knee .

“It will therefore be difficult for him to play again before the end of the season because he needs two to three weeks ( rest ) before returning,” said Passi .

Meanwhile, Eagles captain Mikel Obi is injured and he is set to miss the AFCON 2019 qualifier against South Africa in Uyo in June.

Sources claimed on Thursday that the Tianjin TEDA player had pulled out of the Bafana Bafana clash .

It was learnt that the former Chelsea midfielder travelled to England to see a specialist where it was revealed to him that he would need undergo surgery , which could rule him out of action for two months.

More worries for Super Eagles’ coaches
By Gowon Akpodonor and Alex Monye

Gernot Rohr

• Injured Mikel flown to England for surgery, Enyeama ruled out for rest of season

• Team still have quality goalkeepers, says Chukwu

Super Eagles handlers must be having sleepless night at the moment, following series of injuries to some key players they are expecting to use for the fast approaching AFCON and World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Cameroun.

While injured Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi has been reportedly flown from his base in China to London for urgent surgery, Lille of France announced yesterday that Vincent Enyeama, who is heavily linked with a return to the national team is out for the rest of the season.

According to report on sports.enorth.com.cn, the 30-year old Mikel, who has missed Tianjin TEDA’s last three games due to abdominal strain, could be out for more weeks again.

It was learnt that Mikel has lost confidence in the local medical treatment he has been subjected to before now.

Last month, Mikel underwent a traditional Chinese acupuncture in a bid to be fit for a Chinese Super League match.

“Mikel has not played in the league for three consecutive weeks as he has returned to the UK to prepare for surgical treatment, which also means that he will miss the next three league games,” the report by sports.enorth.com.cn, stated yesterday.

Even outside his injury problems, Mikel has always been a major doubt for the Super Eagles camping in Corsica, France, next month as the Chinese Super League season will still be in progress.

Mikel has scored once in three Chinese Super League appearances since joining on a free transfer from Chelsea this term.

Enyeama has missed the last three games of the club due to the injury, and according to an official statement from the team, he won’t take part in any of their games for the rest of the season.

The former Super Eagles captain was due to hold talks with coach Gernot Rohr about a possible return to the team, following doubts surrounding first choice goalkeeper Carl Ikeme who is battling to be fit.

Enyeama’s return has been severally discussed, with Rohr openly admitting he will love to have the experienced goalkeeper, who left the team after a disagreement with former coach Sunday Oliseh.

Nigeria face South Africa in the AFCON 2019 qualifiers on June 10, with Rohr now faced with the prospect of either fielding Daniel Akpeyi or Ikechukwu Ezenwa, two goalkeepers who he doesn’t seem to have faith in.

Meanwhile, a member of the Technical and Development Committee of the NFF, Christian Chukwu, has told Gerrot Rohr that getting a replacement for injured first choice goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme should not be a problem at this point in time.

Chukwu pointed out yesterday that the duo of Daniel Akpeyi and Ikechukwu Ezenwa have what it takes to stop any opponent in both the Nations Cup and World Cup qualifiers.

“Akpeyi and Ezenwa have been training with the team. They were with the Super Eagles at the London friendly match against Senegal, and I don’t know why Rohr should be worried about goalkeepers,” Chukwu stated.

He further stated that Rohr would be treading on a dangerous part if he decides to turn his back on the two goalkeepers, since the 2019 AFCON qualifier against South Africa and 2018 World Cup qualifier against Cameroun are very important ties for the country.

This Iheanacho's case. I don't think there is any thing yet to be said about it.

The good, the bad, the hype, the drills, the lack of game time, The Pep's Philosophy, the coming of Jesus, the need to leave and so on.

My own is I do not care about Man city, Pep and their Philosophy.

My concern in this case is are we going to the World Cup with a bench warming striker?
A striker that only takes part in drills?

I really feel for the boy. He needs help fast else before our very eyes we'll see Iheanacho disappear from the spot light.
Which is already happening.

Gernot Rohr, I know you can do something. Please talk to Pep to release Iheanacho. I take God beg you.

Tammy Abraham voted best Chelsea loan player ahead of Juventus and Newcastle United stars

Tammy Abraham has had a fine season for Bristol City

Chelsea have become notorious for using the loan system to farm out their young players to a range of clubs all across Europe.

This season, no fewer than 37 players have been sent out for temporary stints by the Premier League leaders in the hunt for first team experience.

Their approach has polarised opinion across football, with some praising the method for giving youngsters playing time, while others have criticised Antonio Conte's side for stockpiling talent.

One starlet who has undoubtedly benefited from his loan spell is Tammy Abraham, who has notched a superb 23 goals for Bristol City in the Sky Bet Championship.

Abraham has impressed so much at Ashton Gate that he has been ranked the best Chelsea player currently plying his trade at another club.

In a poll by football website Squawka , England under-21 international Abraham is ranked highest, ahead of Borussia Monchengladbach centre-back Andreas Christensen and Juventus winger Juan Cuadrado.

Vitesse Arnham midfielder Lewis Baker has been ranked in fourth place, with Ajax striker Bertrand Traore in fifth place.
Fulham defender Tomas Kalas is sixth, followed by PSV midfielder Marco van Ginkel and AC Milan's Mario Pasalic.

Alanyaspor defender Kenneth Omeruo and Matt Miazga of Vitesse round out the top ten.

NFF-Aiteo partnership: Old things are passed away?
By Oluwashina Okeleji

Oil Company Aiteo signs Sponsorship deal with NFF

The biggest news out of the Glass House – home of Nigerian football authority - is that the cash-strapped Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has secured a sponsorship deal with Aiteo Group, an energy company majoring in Oil and Gas.

The deal will span five years, to the tune of 2.5 billion naira, and is principally geared toward servicing salaries of coaches and team officials in the employ of the NFF during that duration.

It goes without saying that this is a very welcome development.

A lack of funding has long been the bane of the NFF, and the issue of national team coaches being owed is so old as to be considered “normal”. With this deal inked, and with Aiteo evidently excited to be entering the field of sports sponsorship, there is a new day dawning.

This is without doubt a masterstroke on the part of NFF President Amaju Pinnick and his board, who have come in for a lot of flak in a rocky opening half of his term. The failure of the senior national team to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations in both 2015 and 2017 is in many ways attributable to the issue of unpaid emoluments.

The late Stephen Keshi was forced to work without pay in the latter part of his tenure, while Sunday Oliseh left the post of Super Eagles coach less than a month to the crucial qualifying double-header against group leaders Egypt in March, citing lack of salary as one of the reasons.

It is safe to say then that the cries of coaches at all levels, from under-17 to the senior national teams, both male and female, will be a thing of the past.

Already, interaction with some of the national team players reveals a sense of relief and excitement at this new deal, which represents a landmark achievement in Nigerian football.

However, this optimism does not percolate the entire population. It is no surprise, considering the antecedents of the country’s football administration, that there has been some cynicism. Even before the identity of the sponsor was made public, there was some talk of money going missing in the Glass House.

Such fears have, in part, been allayed by NFF Vice-President Shehu Dikko, who stated that the accounts of the NFF are open to Aiteo and their auditors for scrutiny. This is in a bid to encourage transparency, and goes some way toward assuaging any lingering suspicion.

Amidst all the praise though, a note of warning: There have been issues in the past with sponsors pulling out, citing breaches of contract or being dissatisfied with what they are getting back with their investment. It would do no good if, having received this massive boost, the agreement is then terminated after a year of two.

Whatever terms of engagement are present in the deal signed, it behoves the NFF to ensure it stays on the straight and narrow path, and protect the interest of its sponsor. It is also a call to the Pinnick-led board to step its game up, and creatively seek out ways to make the Super Eagles’ brand big enough to justify this outlay.

As it stands, this deal covers salaries for coaches. Player bonuses and welfare packages can also be covered as well by other companies, but only if the NFF play a good hand on this one. A good brand attracts sponsors invariably, like bees to nectar, but first they will observe how this is handled. To him that has (and is prudent with it), more shall be given. Kudos to Aiteo for stepping up to the plate, especially in a harsh economic climate.

One of the keys to growth in our sports is the involvement of the private sector, and a setting aside of the apron strings of the Federal Government, via the Sports Ministry. This then represents the start of the weaning process.

Plaudits also go to the NFF for snagging a deal of this magnitude. In a time when a leading multinational has had to withdraw support for the local league, it must have been hard to sell Nigerian football as a profitable investment. They managed it though, and now we can look forward with hope.

They must however be cautious: to whom much is given, much is expected.

Rohr plans fresh Eagles call-up as Iheanacho, Iwobi and Musa warm Bench

Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Genort Rohr, is set to submit his list of players to be invited for a training camp in France next month.

Rohr has been working round the clock to ensure he has the best set of players who will train in France for two weeks leading up to an AFCON 2019 qualifier at home against South Africa in June.

It was gathered that he and his assistants have been studying scouting reports which cover as many as 55 possible players, including a couple of fresh names.

However, the technical crew is having big concern over some of the regular stars like Kelechi Iheanacho, Alex Iwobi and Ahmed Musa, who are not enjoying regular first-team football at their respective clubs.

“The list of invitees for the France camp will be announced next week,” an official informed

“It is not expected to be much different from the players the coach has worked with in recent times, but we should expect a handful of new call-ups.”

It is also understood that Rohr will give more players from the NPFL a chance to stake a claim in his team.

Top of the domestic league stars on the radar are leading hotshot Stephen Odey, Alhassan Ibrahim ‘Muazam’, who has netted 10 goals for Akwa United this season, with goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa again in the mix.

Rohr has watched Odey in action for MFM FC, while his assistants have been at various league venues also taking down notes.

The training camp will open on May 24 on the French Island of Corsica, where the Eagles will play a test game with the local selection.

Was I among those who wished Jesus injury? Am I always around to pick up comments made by others? Abi na spambot I be abi?

And again, This is the Super Eagles thread.... not samba boys thread...

And I just won't jump at every comment... I remember even defending Jesus' talents when he was referred to as a federico macheda waiting to happen.... that was because I saw it.

I wasn't always around... or aren't you aware mister?? You think I have been as ever-present as before....??

Anyway... kwantinue backing the calling out of KC... alright... at least, from your comments, you do admit that Kelechi was rudely made fun of and jeered at... you admit he was called out. smiley

Thanks for accepting that truth.

If you guys care more.... that is your business... I no dey drag care more or care less...
But I cannot spot unhealthy digs aimed at Nacho for nothing of his own doing and be quiet....

The boy has done nothing wrong to warrant such unhealthy and destructive digs and jeers....

It is uncalled for... so it is not about being the first of last to be called out... it is about Justice...

There is absolutely no basis for making fun of Nacho... as if his situation at City is his fault... Abi na him carry himself go bench?? Abi na him dey sub himself in??

Abi na him say he no wan play match but do drills only??

The problem is not nacho but Pep... and nooooo... this is not about looking for the fall guy in Nacho's situation... it is just saying it as it is...

Nacho didnt lose form or play so abysmally to warrant being left out of match day squads... but hey that is his situation now and the least anyone can do is offer encouraging words... not poke fun at him or make fun of the whole situation and tell me... you have theGoodJoe in mind....

Know what? don't worry... let us have you in Nacho's kinda situation at City in your field and then have people make fun of the situation by dropping "digs" directed at me but with your name at the centre of the digs....... may be then you will understand better... wink

How classic of una indeed.... smiley

I just dont want this uncalled and unnecessary dispute to continue.

PSG, Celtic, Everton, RB Leipzig Battling For Signature Of Man City Nigerian Wonderkid

German Bundesliga surprise package RB Leipzig are looking to sign Manchester City prospect Tosin Adarabioyo in the summer transfer market.

According to the Times, the central defender is unhappy over his lack of first-team opportunities despite assurances before the start of this season, and is eager to play for a team where he will get more game time.

Apart from the interest from RB Leipzig, the England youth international is on the radar of Paris Saint-Germain, Everton and Celtic.

The 19-year-old Adarabioyo will not make a decision on his future until the season ends next month.

City have held talks with Tosin's representative, his brother Gbolahan Adarabioyo, but the negotiations ended fruitlessly, and it is thought he wants to move on to pastures new.
The defender joined City at the age of five and has made only four appearances for the first team to date.

I have my doubts about PSG, Celtic a possibility but all he has played so far is youth football.

Going from one big club to another without pedigree may not be the best option. Getting a loan move may be better possibly in the championship and prove your mettle.

He is at City does not mean he is exceptional talent, he needs to prove it. I watched Fikayo go to Brighton and Hove and he has just been ok not exceptional.

If he was exceptional talent he should be number 1 for England U21 and have been a regular in the national youth team set up for England.

Can anyone give us an explosive detail about the drills kelechi had been doing since because I don't understand the drills that characterised 3-4 pages of this thread. I don't see anything bad about drills, is it not to improve the player eventually to the taste of the coach's policy and ideas so why the fuss about DRILLS...

kelechi, keep up the drills so that you can be an explosive and a better player for the eagles.

The problem with this particular setup is that we can't possibly be using a bench warmer as our top striker. Forget this talk, Nacho is losing it and Iwobi too is losing it, we can't possibly play both of them against a top opposition. Nacho was missing easy chances against Senegal then he tucked home a penalty and we played out a draw but since it was just a friendly we all kept quiet, if the same thing happens against SA only then we will start complaining

you mean the same drills that made him miss easy chances against Senegal. Honestly we should start looking for other options. He is trying to stay at Man City because he feels his place in our team is certain and that's rubbish. We have strikers performing: Adi, Kayode and a lot of other new ones, heck even Onyekuru can play in that position. We have top AMFs too, so I don't understand this talk about Nacho's over-hyped importance

Only Guardiola Can Explain Why He Keeps Picking Sterling Ahead Of Iheanacho – EPL Legend

Former Manchester United and Manchester City midfielder Owen Hargreaves says Pep Guardiola decision to stick with Raheem Sterling ahead of Kelechi Iheanacho can only be explained by the manager.

Iheanacho was a late substitute in Man City 1-2 loss to Arsenal in the semi-finals of the Emirates FA Cup played at Wembley, making history as the first ever player to be used as a fourth substitute in the history of the competition when he came on for Sterling in extra-time.

Yesterday he wasn’t listed for action by Guardiola in his matchday squad for the Manchester Derby against Manchester United, a decision which shocked Hargreaves considering the Nigerian netted the winner in the reverse tie at Old Trafford last year.

”Maybe there’s something the coach (Guardiola) knows that we don’t know else Iheanacho who scored the winner should have at least made the bench, ahead of Sterling”, Hargreaves said.

”Sterling has struggled for form and goals this season, unlike Iheanacho who has been prolific in front of goal despite limited playing time. I can’t understand picking Sterling ahead of Iheanacho only Guardiola can explain”.

Enyeama Will Be Fit For Nigeria Get-Together In France, Ball Is Now In Rohr's Court

Lille netminder Vincent Enyeama will undergo an arthroscopy of the left knee next week and will probably not play a competitive game for the French Ligue 1 club until next season.

With the ex-Super Eagle expected to spend a minimum of two weeks on the sidelines, Nigeria manager Gernot Rohr can still add the goalkeeper to his roster for the training camp in Corsica if he manages to convince him to rescind his decision to retire prematurely from the national team.

''His knee is swollen. The time he recovers after this examination takes two to three weeks, so it seems compromised for him to play,'' " explained Franck Passi to reporters at Thursday's press conference.

Enyeama, 34, sustained a knee injury versus Rennes on April 15, which led to his substitution in the 65th minute, and sat out last weekend's 3-0 win against Guingamp because of the ailment.

Nigeria begin their training camp in France on May 23, around the same time the experienced goalkeeper is expected to resume full training.

Lagos Academy Set For N 400 m Windfall From Ndidi ’ s Leicester Move

A Lagos-based football academy Little Wonders FC is set to receive compensation from the transfer of Wilfred Ndidi to Premier League champions Leicester City, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Ndidi started out playing organised street football for Little Wonders Football Club under the tutelage of coach Victor Atutoya who decided to start an academy at the Military Cantonment in Ikeja, Lagos to help young kids to recover from the trauma of the Ikeja bomb blast of 2002.

Atutoya oversaw Ndidi's development from the age of seven and Little Wonders FC have been battling for a FIFA-mandated 5% training compensation from the deal that took the Super Eagles midfielder from Genk to Leicester in January.

Little Wonders FC trained Ndidi from a tender age until he joined Nath Boys of Lagos from where he transferred to Belgium. But after enlisting the services of London-based lawyer and with the help of Ndidi, Leicester have agreed to pay Little Wonders what is due them, which is estimated at £850,000 (about N425 million).

Speaking exclusively to Complete Sports, a very excited coach Atuyota thanked Ndidi for remembering his roots and revealed the money will a long way in transforming the club and helping more young kids.

"I'm very very happy, in fact I'm the happiest person on earth right now since we reached an agreement with Leicester City, and it’s good for the club. Wilfred still left some young boys behind and now they're going to benefit from him.

"I thank him for all his efforts in helping us. Now we can afford to buy balls, cones and other training equipment. I appreciate Ndidi for remembering where he came from because it is not all players that make it remember where they are coming from. I pray for him to continue going to higher places."

Referring to Ndidi as his son, Atutoya shared fond memories of the shy young boy who he observed first hand develop from a budding talent to a towering versatile central defender who could also play as a defensive midfielder.

He said: "I started training Wilfred Ndidi from when he was small, when he didn't even know how to wear a boot. He just wanted to play football and gradually he became used to playing with boots.

"We played a match with coach Nduka Ugbade's team at the Ikeja cantonement, our players were very small, especially Ndidi, yet we beat them. Ugbade was so impressed with Ndidi's performance he told me he would like to take him to the Coca-Cola tournament in Owerri. The barracks was like a fence and the boys needed exposure, so I decided it's best for his career to go to the tournament."

Mickael2:

I remember you said that you wanted Nacho to stay at Man City because you like hearing about nigerians playing for top clubs, so you have seen the light? I just pray GoodJoe sees it too.

The problem with this particular setup is that we can't possibly be using a bench warmer as our top striker. Forget this talk, Nacho is losing it and Iwobi too is losing it, we can't possibly play both of them against a top opposition. Nacho was missing easy chances against Senegal then he tucked home a penalty and we played out a draw but since it was just a friendly we all kept quiet, if the same thing happens against SA only then we will start complaining

in an ideal situation i would have wanted KC to stay at city because i felt this is just his second full season as a player needing more time to mature and improve. that was however predicated on situation that pep give him ample playing time to learn, make mistakes and improve as a player. i think this is the point of disagreement with goodjoe what's the point learning ''drills'' if you wont allow him execute what he has learnt. take sane for example understandably he didn't make the first team he was introduced gradually as he got better. now that he is a first team starter he still has lots to learn but pep is giving him a fair run of games to establish himself same with sterling who hasn't done anything special to warrant pep constantly starting him. as all the members in the house have said in different ways we pray his handlers find him a good club to get back his confidence cos world cup is around the corner and guardiola clearly has no plans for him.
i watched KC's performance against senegal to be sincere i was fairly satisfied with his goal. yes he missed some chances which happens to any good striker but overall he pestered the senegalese defence all night which was no small feat considering the huge opponents he was up against. the boy will be just ok under rohr who will take care and bring out the best in him. that said the technical crew have to find more striking options to ensure more competition in the super eagles

If thunder and lightening were a million dollars each, I'd give your over a 100 for this comment of the month!!!!! The rest no consign me, na just make my guy@nacho, make he no rust pass iron or slow pass the old rickety ceiling fan way dey pa ochuko's palor.

no be only you no like the digs, butthwy must be said

Me sef, it pains me to see the digs, but if I were in Kelechi's shoes and I saw these digs, do you know what I would do? I would call up my agent and tell him I want to leave.

That is the purpose of the digs, let him be pissed off, let him feel sad and angry enough to want to get out of that limbo he has found himself.

If all the nice talk achieved nothing, then by all means, sling mud at him until he gets his head in the phucking game and realises the only way to stay relevant in football is to stay on the pitch

In fact, let Rohr call up Onyekuru for the France camp, throw Kelechi in the reserve team and le him know that he will only get his place back when he starts kicking balls in actual games cuz right now, he's no better than people who play football on PES
Thank you for this epic reply. Kelechi Iheanacho may not get the whole gist if we all keep positive and chain him to his comfort zone.

He should come out of his comfort zone by some of these jabs we throw at him.

I am even of the opinion that Rohr should allow Kayode who plays regularly for his team to start ahead of Iheanacho.

If he continues starting games for us, he may never get the message.

If this is seen as hatred towards Nacho, so be it.

Super Eagles can not afford to rely on a bench "warmer" for our World Cup games.

OK, let me understand, are you saying that because you saw "a pic of Nacho with Pep", it means that Nacho has a wonderful relationship with Pep? Wow...wow...wow!!!

Why do natives always think in this absurd way, eh? This is exactly the thought process that has gotten a vast majority of Africans in trouble at their workplaces here in the US: "Oh, they would never fire me because my boss likes me." Then they would go and misbehave. And I mean, the first slightest mistake, and they are outta there! And I have seen this happen over and over and over again.

In fact, our people's naivete is beyond comprehension!

Listen to me, Pep doesn't give a hoot about Nacho. My sources informed me that there have been substantive allegations of racism against Pep, right from his Barca days. And his battle with Yaya Toure (coupled with his treatment of Nacho) actually substantiate that allegation. Hence, for Nacho to play under Pep then he has to be substantially better than the likes of Aguero, Navas, Nolito, Jesus, and Sterling. And I don't see that happening. Hence, his best option is to request a transfer ASAP!

Anyway... all I want to say is I do remember the PIC of Iheanacho and Pep... I think I also have it in my gallery.. but will take some minutes to find because a plethora of our Super Eagles players' pics are there.... among others... smiley

I can see that you also posted it here again... smiley

Believe me at first I was excited with the prospects of Nacho learning under pep... but I also thought playing time will also come as part of the whole pep-nacho relationship but since this year began... that is not the case.

Was just wondering, with all the pep nd iheanacho talks going around has anyone thought "is iheanacho good enough" am n't aganist him in anyway cos I watch most of city matches because of him, nd right from inception he has failed to impress me, no doubt he scores goals nd has dat been in d right place instinct but is he good enough.

Really some of you here can be really amnesiac.... is it not I who have stated times and times again that Pep doesn't rate Nacho?? is it not I who is saying that Pep is the issue here with Nacho's non-playing situation and not Nacho? This is why I want Nacho left alone and left out of all jabs and unhealthy digs.... he is not the issue... the issue is Pep does not rate or give a damn about Nacho.... na wa!

But, You just jump in and start blabbing off tangent... cool down next time and read from the contextual beginning of each post then you will understand much better the point I was driving home.....
