And for those engines specifying Ow20 you can use 5w20 for it. Excellent substitute.

My car is 2003 toyota Highlander, with above 250k mileage, normally used toyota oil 20w50 in servicing and the last time I went to service at total filling station, I used their oil 20w50 in November and since then whenever I accelerate I hear a funny sound. Now I want to service car, can I go back to toyota car specification of 5W30 without any negative effect or should I continue with the 20W50 but toyota oil .
Thanks you. I use the car within town. No travelling

That 20w50 oil is not good for your Highlander engine. Your mileage is very high too. You should try the 5w30 to see if it can help to clean the sludge in that engine and boost the performance. Its been proven to help eliminate most of the engine noises

You can call 09086679585 to get the Toyota Motor Oil 5w30. The price is 3k per litre

Quickly migrate to the recommended Toyota Motor Oil 5w30. I have used it and will continue to use it, after previously using the wrong oil specification in my cars. The first thing you notice when you change the oil to the Toyota oil is how quiet your engine runs...almost silent. The drive is so cool now and i look forward to driving everyday. Frankly, i think this is one of the best OEM oils you can find. Make sure it is the US Spec oil you get and not the Dubai one that comes in metal containers. The difference between the two is really large

What oil have you been using for it?

By the way, 5w30 is an excellent substitute for 10w30

Ahhhh that's really serious. Engine would be badly "sludged". Changing to the required oil would be helpful in cleaning the sludge but again, depends on how far gone that engine is. 3 yrs of your using 20w50 and maybe 8 previous years of using AZ oil before the car got to you. You get my drift?

[Thanks, I did service the car with 5w30. Honestly the car is so smooth now and the silly sound reduced and is almost gone now. I will never listen to some mechanics again. Thanks Nairaland family. The important thing that made me happy was when the service center now placed a paper on when next to service, oooh boy! Unlike 20w50 which is almost monthly. I am so happy for using this oil though expensive but worth it. Thanks again. quote author=Niyitoba post=54010510]

Virtually every mechanic recommends the use of 20w50 esp Mobil XHP.

This is despite the recommended 5W30/5w20 for most millennium cars (toyotas).

They say the reason is that once the mileage is above 100,000 it is better to use the heavier 20W50.

Please is this true?

What oil should be used in a 1999 toyota camry with 120k,2006 toyota sienna with 100k and 2006 toyota corolla with 90k miles.

Is up to you... to decide whose recommendation to follow. ... the manufacturer that made the engine..... or your uncertified untrained mechanic .

Please educate your mechanics to stop giving harmful oil advice. You cannot be using 20w50 oil in modern engines and expect good results. Most likely, your engine will pack up in the long run.

As for me, I use Genuine Toyota Motor Oil 5w20 for my Lexus GX70 and other cars. The performance is unbelievable. I have used Nigerian Mobil-1 and trust me, it doesn't even come close to the performance and protection I experience with the Genuine Toyota Oil. This is the US Toyota Oil I'm talking about not the one from Abu Dhabi .
