This April, the Internally Generated Revenue of all the states in Nigeria for 2015 was released by the National Bureau of Statistics. There is a decrease in the total IGR of all the states together, comparing the Internally Generated Revenue of 2014 and 2015. The IGR of 2014 is N707.8 billion while that of 2015 is N683.6 billion. Maybe the economic down turn we are facing now affected the IGR.

Three states have the biggest IGR drop between 2014 and 2015. The states are, Kwara (-74%), Imo (-48) and Yobe (-37%). Internally Generated Revenue of 24 states fell from 2014 – 2015. The states are: Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Katsina, Bayelsa, Benue, Delta, Kebbi, Cross River, Kano, Plateau, Kaduna, Jigawa, Yobe, Kwara, Imo, Ekiti, Lagos, Gombe, Enugu, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Zamfara, Rivers.

For the year 2015, states with the highest IGR are : Lagos, Rivers, Delta, Ogun and Enugu. One thing with these states with exception of Ogun state is that though they have the highest Internally Generated Revenue, there is a dip in the IGR compared to the previous year.

States with the lowest IGR for 2015 are : Yobe, Zamfara, Ekiti, Borno, Kebbi. Here you will notice that the states with the lowest IGR for 2015 is mainly from the Northern part of Nigeria except Ekiti which is from the south west.

Anambra state did very well in their Internally Generated Revenue. They experience a rise in the IGR from 2014 – 2015. In 2014, Anambra got N10.5 billion while in 2015 it was N14.8 billion. This means that Anambra state experienced a rise in her IGR of about N4.3 billion which is 29% rise. This is not bad where many states are having a dip in their IGR. Kudos to the governor of Anambra state, Willie Obiano.

Other states that experienced a rise in their IGR from 2014 – 2015 are : Abia (7.33%), Bauchi (10.02%), Borno (21.80%), Edo (10.95%), Kogi (3.05%), Nassarawa (4,59%), Niger (3.98%), Ogun (49.42%), Sokoto (9.75%), Taraba (8.57%). The unexpected and surprising state in the list of those who experienced a rise in their IGR is Borno state. One would think with all the Boko Haram palaver, that they will be among the states to experience a dip, but that was not the case. For this I will say they are the best performing state in IGR collection.

In summary, Ogun and Anambra states are the two states that recorded the highest rise in Internally Generated Revenue. Maybe other states may want to call the governors of these two states and learn from them what they are doing to shore up the IGR of their states.

Below is the IGR of the states from highest to lowest.

Ayodele Fayose & Co need to brace up beyond buying Dodo & Akara all over the places. Kudos to the Governor of Anambra and Ogun State; wishing more wisdom to their brains. We shall get there. God bless Nigeria.
