Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr Olisa Agbakoba says he is yet to come to terms with the nature of bilateral agreements Nigeria signed with China. The former President of the Nigerian Bar Association is also concerned that there is not enough information in the public about President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent trip to China. He said that he would want the federal government to give more information on what the bilateral agreement signed with China entails. Mr Agbakoba told our judicial correspondent, Shola Sholeye, that he was also worried about the legal framework surrounding some of the agreements reached. “I am concerned that such a complicated process was finished in one week. I’m concerned as to whether it was actually finished. “I’m concerned about what legal framework was used because in international trade there are two frameworks; multilateral, under the WTO which this is not, or bilateral investment negotiations. So I don’t know if this is bilateral investment or simply bilateral trade. “These are very important clarifications because they carry different consequences,” Mr Agbakoba said. Mr Olisa Agbakoba, also criticized China for asking Nigeria not to deal with Taiwan because of their new bilateral agreement. “Who are they to say that to a sovereign country like Nigeria that we cannot deal with Taiwan? I find that offensive and contrary to the status of Nigeria as one that wants to occupy the seat of Africa in the Security Council,” he said. The Senior Advocate said that there is a lot to learn from the China economy but ultimately Nigeria needs to develop a national plan. http://www.channelstv.com/2016/04/22/agbakogba-wants-clarifications-on-china-nigeria-bilateral-agreement/ 36 Likes 1 Share

That trip will turn out to be a waste. They probably went there, listened to the chinese offer because we truly don't have anything to offer except our oil and the value of that one sef is fluctuating ridiculously low and china can have an option of getting oil somewhere so they got back to their rooms and where confused as to what kind of agreement they just reached whethe bilateral investment or trade, That's why they cannot come out and give a press briefing as to what was agreed or not. But to allow everyone to speculate and they quickly come out to deny. Agbakoba go wait tire. 78 Likes 4 Shares |

From What I read about it, I think it's cool if it's implemented properly.. The problem of Nigeria has not always been agreeing to bilateral agreements, the problem has always been allowing it to work out smoothly. 1 Like 1 Share |

As much as a lot of Nigerians considered those investment projects good deals we also need to be sure whatever agreement signed with china and other countries since the inception of this administration be judiciously looked into lest we wake up one day to know the country has been signed into servitude. If the disagreement alleged to have occurred between Buhari and one of his ministers during the signing of a bilateral agreement with UAE is anything to go by then its essential we scrutinized those agreements. Nigeria is a non aligned nation and it will be better we keep it so in order to maintain our sovereignty. 15 Likes 1 Share |

Honestly, one of my problems with this government is that, information made to the public is always economical. As if the whole show is about a people and not a nation. This is why I always say we are in era of democratic deceptions, lies and cover ups 17 Likes 2 Shares |

SamuelAnyawu:I hope we are not being handed the short end of the stick and it's implemented properly. luvinhubby: If he can single handedly pledge that we join a coalition of muslim countries against terror without recourse to the fact that Nigeria is a secular country then we should care to know the content of every agreement with other nations especially those in the middle east. 17 Likes 1 Share |

This is what I expected from the Presidency upon return from this overly hyped and sensitive trip to China. Rather than all the speculations of currency swap today and denial tomorrow and so on, they ought to have convened a press conference and properly briefed Nigerians on the particulars and import of this trip as well as others where agreements were signed like Qatar and UAE. We need to know whether all is well or we've been sold off due to ignorance. It's not wise to go to sleep trusting in 'Baba' as some do. He is not God; just highly ignorant! He's just a mere mortal, an aged one at that and fallible as well. 36 Likes 2 Shares |

No Nigerian on the street can tell you the details of the celebrated land mark one week journey that we the media gave a huge hype. Abeg who knows if it's bilateral or multilateral agreement? This is why I keenly watch British prime minister Cameron being drilled by the parliament. Britain understands that every action of their leaders will affect their children. I have said it before Nigerias president is too powerful. Obama was at the Congress to defend his bail out fund and health bill. Any decision about the people must be as transparent as the wind. Our Leaders must know that whatever seed they sow now we will reap. What is so difficult in publishing or presenting the agreement before our parliament for them to scrutinize. They are not all nut heads. What agreement did we sign with China. Why are we providing a huge counter part funding. Seun do you know? Lalasticlala do you know? Nigerians if you know, please educate me 22 Likes 1 Share |
