Why is this news? Both refineries have always been producing between 6-7million litre/day for years now. So what are we celebrating?
We consume 40million litres daily and our half dead refineries produce just 10-12million litres of pms and we shuld jump up & be happy? We can sha celebrate mediocrity!!!
We should celebrate when we can be able to refine enough pms to fill our 40million litres/day need #kapish

When was the last time the 3 refineries produced consistently for 3 months?

Have you been following lately?

Progress and good intent/implementation is the celebration here; not 'goal achieved', not 'utopia'.

We build on this . . . read the concluding part of the article . . . fingers crossed, that should fix that.

If all the refineries are working at 70% or more, we should be able to get north of 15 million litres daily, and if smuggling and pipeline vandalism is checked, we should have more stable power supply, reducing our daily consumption of PMS, AGO, and DPK -- reducing our refined products import, and conserving Forex, checkmating inflation.

The man is saying the truth because for the past three days fuel has been selling for 150 naira per litre, which is a remarkable improvement.

It's good to be back again after about 3 days of ban. Please, any mod that feels uneasy with my comment should stop reading them.

Back to business of the evening.

I like the part that says “ What we have done is to find a very creative way of bringing investors who will come in, work with our team here who have the skills, reactivate and upgrade facilities in these refineries’’, the minister disclosed.
According to him, the investors will also help us to provide technical support and they will be paid through the flow out of refined products over a period of time which is why we have also changed the refining model such that refineries pay for their crude so it goes into federation account.
He explained that whatever they produce is theirs and they sell to one huge customer which will be both Nigerian Petroleum Marketing Company (NPMC) and the marketers themselves and that enables them to keep the refineries going after the upgrade so that the problem we have in the past of not repairing the refineries will not reoccur."

"the investors will also HELP US to provide technical support "

HOW MANY PROFESSORS OF TECHNICAL SCIENCE IN THIS COUNTRY?

That 7m litre/per day is roughly 231 tankers/per day out of 1000plus tankers they said they are releasing per day,i swear,Nigeria as a country is a disgrace,a country with abundant crude oil close to four decade but cannot refine crude oil that will suffice her citizens, what a country punished with selfish, greedy and useless leaders for decades

Kachikwu is too good to be an ibo man; I sincerely don't think the tribe deserves such an illustrious gifted exceptional gentleman.

My man that has been the quote during jonathans administration & now.....and mind you our refineries are not working @ 70%. But at 60%. Often times we were lied to, and told they were now operating @ 80% because of the turn around maintenance(T.A.M). Only for another person to come out in the media and say the refineries are dead. Let's just keep our hands crossed for the dangote refinery coming on board

Upgrade no repair.....go and read that update again. The quoted sum was suppose to be for upgrade to enable them run at near 100% installed capacity which will not be upto the 40mil ltrs/day needed to keep the streets wet all year round without further import.
EmmaOgbu:
Kachikwu !!! Not long ago u said that FG can't afford 700m dollars to repair our refineries, now your saying that two out of the three refineries are already producing. Choo I hope ur not lying? Cos if you do, we will transfer you to the ministry of information.
But for now let me go dust my generator.

7 million litres a day, and many filling stations in ph arent selling fuel, we still have black marketeers on the streets.

Is the 7 million litres a paper figure? undecided

i think Kachikwu is now becoming a real APC propagandist .

anyway i dont blame him; when he told Nigerians the truth about fuel situation; Nigerians called for his head..... LET HIM RESIGN..

now he has decided to become a real APC/PDP politician with giving unverified figures; unrealistic data and Nigerians would soon start to hail him... HE IS VERY GOOD IN THE JOB

They really say "A LEADER IS A PRODUCT OF THE FOLLOWERS"

Relax, he was talking about full repair & upgrade for them to run at optimum capacity. A refinery might be functioning but recording more losses than gains. It's like complaining of your badly maintained car that emits excess carbon monoxide & guzzles fuel yet your wife's stubborn kidbro steals fuel from your tank, bursts your tires & blows your gasket. Still you need to drive to work & spend money fixing what you were still fixing or saving for a new one...while domestic bills need to be met.

In otherwords, our refineries are messed up, but we need fuel, gas for electricity, polypropylene & other by-products. The more pipelines are vandalized & we ignore, support or don't stop it. We'll keep taking that 'wrecked car' back to the mechanic for repairs...until a day it refuses to cough...and then we'll be stranded, the entire Nation in perpetual darkness, stands still. Even phone companies & airports will shutdown. This time for a long time because the damage might then be unfixable. And then we'll probably go back to playing the 'blame game'.
OK, I hear

Appreciate the progress being made,
Import reduced,
foreign exchange saved,
SS & SE Consumers taken care of,
Refineries back on stream.
the 231 per day is a lot 1600 tankers in a week

Had it been we are refining half of what we are consuming,it could have been better, but look at the amount of forex using per day for the purchase of refined product in this forex scarcity, could u imagine the hardship people are scaling through due shortage of forex and we as a country over-rely on foreign goods including the crude oil we have in abundant in our backyard.
