The Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has deployed no fewer than fifty of its personnel to keep vigil on the illegal activities of miners in the State.

Fasiu Adeyinka, Ondo State NSCDC Commandant
Sahara Reporters Media
In a statement issued by the command's Public Relations Officer (PRO), Kayode Balogun, in Akure, the State capital, said that the action was in line with the federal government directive to check and curb the illegal activities of the miners belt on sabotaging concerted effort.

The statement obtained by SaharaReporters correspondent further said the move was also in same page with the mandate of the federal government to diversify the economy of the country following the drop in price oil from the international market.

He stated that the command has also worked out modality with the Special Task Force (STF) team in the State with proper sealed synergy with the Ministry of Solid Minerals and Development to chase out illegal miners sucking the wealth and resources of the state without approval.

"The officers which will work in conjunction with the officials of the Federal Ministry of Solid Mineral Development is to ensure that all illegal miners are flushed out from the state", he added.

The NSCDC Spokesman noted that the operations of these illegal miners riding on the shoulder of top government officers had always been a source of concern to the command mostly at the southern part of area of the State that had the vast deposited of oil.

Balogun confirmed that part of the major drive of the State Commandant, Fasiu Adeyinka, over the latest step is to root out criminals who always masquerade in security uniforms to aid adulterated oil dealers by escorting them out of the creeks.

He added that the command had received lots of complains about the incessant activities of the illegal oil criminals in the southern part of the State and vowed that their officers are battle ready to sniffed them out of their hidden place.

Mr. Balogun who asked all mining companies in the State to ensure their activities have legal backup in compliance with the federal government policy stressed that saboteurs should rather stay out of the state or face the music of the law.

It took Ondo 5 years to finally get a go-ahead from FG to mine bitumen, so why is FG on our ass again? It sounds like they're trying so hard to find an excuse to shut this process down. Buhari, so much for economic diversification. Good job.

Why does the Nigeria fear regional growth that's not situated in the East or North?

Off topic question, why does FG get to keep 83% of revenues obtained from mineral exploration?

APC, Tinubu specifically, it would be a shame to shut down a SW goldmine, just because of politics.

I don't care which party does what, I just want the SW to continue growing.

Bullshit, they just want to spy.

50 NSCDc to stop illegal miners but less than 20 soldiers sent to Agatu and Enugu.

Buhari has shown us that his interest is more in our resources than human lives.

Illegal miners do not pay the relevant taxes to the government, and as a result.....government loses revenue. At all levels. So...it makes sense.

Also...most illegal miners do so without doing environmental impact assessment. So...as a result...the whole environment gets damaged....and this can lead to more social in-cohesion.

I wish government spent more time curbing the activities of illegal miners all over the nation...especially in the North. Maybe we will reduce our dependence on oil by increasing revenue from other sources. Of course....nothing beats industrialization.

MODIFIED: A new phenomenon among legal mining concerns is that they sign a community development agreement with the local host community. An illegal mining concern won't do that.

Natural resources quite important than the lives of Nigerians. What has been done to protect Nigerians from the most ruthless terrorist group in the world-Fulani herdsmen?

If only you know the height of wickedness and deception the government of Ondo State thrives on...
On a lighter note, do you see Tinubu in your dreams?...because I don't see how this concerns him.

This present administration. GEJ delayed and ignored it. The proposition to mine bitumen had been dancing on GEJ's desk for 5 years.

mimiko went to hire some white men from Lagos claiming they have signed a deal to mine bitumen...do u know d rate of crime going on in ondo state, why did he just wake up now when he's about leaving office by November...BTW the last lg election, only PDP voted, only PDP won, this is an election he failed to conduct for d past 8years he has been in office, who is deceiving who here...the company in d united States where the white men claimed they came from was called and the said they know noting about the deal.
Do you now want the fg to open its eye and watch what PDP govt of 16years failed to explore and now they want to put d money in their pocket..

The annoying part is that most of u wailers who support this man reside in Lagos and other part of the country and u don't know what's going on in ondo state but u just generalise,if u stay in ondo state u will know ondo state is not working,no major project and he also failed to employ any worker for the past 8 years..look at his counterpart in ekiti, launching some laughable projects inviting 16 governors, they had better say the truth dat they came for a meeting to strategize on something
It is in this Ondo state that the government said it is not aware that about 7 local gov't out of the 18 do not have electricity in the last one and a half years. How are we to believe this late exploration is in the interest of the people and not the pocket?
