The Five states of the South East have launched a comprehensive campaign to stop the armed Fulani herdsmen from the mainly Igbo territories.
Irohinoodua was informed by a reliable source in Enugu that the five core Igbo states have met and resolved to see the invasion of the South East states as a collective challenge to Ndigbo.
Our correspondent learnt that the states are raising funds to create local security operatives with the hope of protecting the entire South East states from Fulani herdsmen. Sources hinted that the Enugu state government has already committed a total of N100million naira being the first installment for capacity building of locals to be able to compliment the efforts of the police against the attacks from armed nomads.
Nimbo, a community in Enugu State was recently invaded by armed Fulani men. The nomads were said to have killed several innocent people in a raid that lasted for several hours leaving behind pains and anguish.
“The states are working together. They will raise joint funds to fight the nomadic armed groups. Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has already doled out 100million, the governor has also met with traditional rulers in the state.
While donating the money, the Enugu State Governor, Ugwuanyi has said “It is the intention of government, particularly in the light of contemporary challenges to reactivate and make them functional in the interest of the peace and security of our people.
He said further that ‘towards this end, we have scheduled to inaugurate the board for the neighborhood associations and will be asking you to make inputs in relation to its composition to ensure adequate and fair representation of all concerned parties.”

In a related development, an official of the O’odua Nationalist Coalition, (ONAC) Mr Ahmed Adepoju told Irohinoodua that his group was impressed by the prompt response of the South East leaders. “The SE Governors have proved to be highly responsive to the needs and aspirations of their people. When Boko Haram killed Igbos in the North, the Governors cried out. They visited the areas and the victims. That was under President Goodluck Jonathan. At that time Yoruba Governors did nothing. They Yoruba victims were left to lick their wounds. Again, Fulani herdsmen have been attacking the Yoruba states for the past years, the victims are suffering in silence. Yoruba victims of Boko Haram are in hundreds, no governor and no Yoruba leader visited the North. All they care for is their pockets.” Adepoju commended the Igbo leaders for what he described as their ‘prompt and decisive response in the face of collective danger,’ adding that the governors have proved that they cared about their people.

Hopefully this leads to both regions to work together to get rid of this menace. Igbos, Yorubas, Binis, Ijaws and other southerners, we don't have to like each other but we need to put our differences aside to eradicate the threat of the herdsmen. I truly believe that there's something sinister going on behind the scenes here.
