Economic crime?

Lol

I guess when we finally arrest pipeline vandals and those who steal electricity Infrastructure, we will hand them over to EFCC as well.

By the way you have a point though.

At least someone needs to trace their bank accounts to see how much illegal wealth has been amassed and who has been coordinating them

The federal government could not manage a simple process of refining. simple I mean simple. just fractional distillation if you read basic chemistry. The government choose to enrich a few individuals by paying subsidy and equalization fees to import the product these guys produce locally and freely transport and sell all over the country. Keep in mind most trucks, heavy equipment, marine and machinery in these areas use diesel from these guys. since the flash point of AGO is low, its pretty simple to distill the crude oil and discharge the associated naphtha in the environment. The fuel crises would have been more severe if not for this illegal refiners who am told produce over 600,000litres a day and sell them along the costal lines from calabar to Ondo.

My point is why can't the federal government give them grant to build there business and subsidy the crude sale to them with the money they pay their cronies as subsidy and equalization fund. That way the refining business will be developed creating employment, reduce environmental degradation through high volumes of naphtha discharged into the environment and ensure steady supply of product. If you noticed the destruction of illegal refineries have reduced, these guys who have been arrested might not have paid the bribe amount. All JTF in this region are part of the cartel. they supervise the production and transportation. this is a product of a broken system driven by government failure and ineptitude and the demand for petroleum product. Arresting multiples of these guys everyday will not solve the problem as long as the demand and market exit. We cannot practice capitalism and socialism at same time. What worries me is how no body in government realizes this. they deal with the symptoms and not the cause.

what incentives do the security officials have to arrest these guys other than the non payment of the bribe amount to the relevant security agencies. There is heavy demand for the product, the security official are not adequately compensated- no housing, school fees for children, no good health care facility, pension or warfare system. they have seen how their colleague who retired or dead in active duty were treated etc. What is the incentive to serve the country when they see how their bosses and government officials enrich themselves- other than share moral integrity, they will not. And there is a limit to moral integrity in the midst of hunger, basic needs and death.

for example, the federal government pay about N12.50 as subsidy and an undisclosed amount as equalization fund to transport imported refined product from Lagos to other parts of the country and yet fuel aside from few places in Lagos and Abuja, sells for N120 to N250 per liter. The guys collect the subsidy, the equalization fees and still sell at N150. So where is the subsidy. the regulated price is N86.50. Add the subsidy amount and you have N99.00. Add the an equalization fee of N10/LIT and you have N109/Lit. So why keep the subsidy and enrich some while arresting others. Give others subsidy, needed grant and develop that industry while regulating them. This is that simple.

That means you know little or nothing about the establishment of EFCC. Oil bunkering is an act of economic crimes which still fall under the jurisdiction of EFCC.

When army see the real bunkerers, they collect bribe and pass. When they see innocent huzzlers, they arrest and tag bunkerers.

Corruption has made us to be very foolish in our actions most times.

May God help us.
