With the usual owambe* accompanying it, Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari finally signed the 2016 Nigerian budget into law. The country’s National Economic Council (NEC) members and National Assembly members clapped and cheered as the President signed what many analysts and Nigerians believe will halt the economic hardship that has hit the country. The budget is just one out of so many quick fix solutions the one-year old government has launched to stem the near-recession that has bedeviled it.

To add to the challenges facing the country, the Giant of Africa hit a new low early this year; transmitting 0MW on its National Grid. The entire nation panicked and wondered what had happened to the recent improvements they had enjoyed. Only a few months ago, the country had reached a national record of 5000MW and despite the fact that the new government contributed nothing to the sector at the time, they were quick to take credit for the short-lived improvement; with the Presidency famously attributing the record to the ‘body language’ of the new government.
