I was in a fuel station this evening about to buy fuel and fuel was selling at N125 but all of a sudden the station supervisor came and changed the meter to sell at N145. The people before me bought at N125. It was a very frustrating experience. May God help us in this country.

initially when i saw the news i had nothing to say but for now all i can say is HMMMMMMMM..M.. E DONE SET...
WITH THE EXCESSIVE HARDSHIP AND PAIN IN THE COUNTRY ITS ILL-TIMED TO REMOVE SUBSIDY ... THEY HAV TRIPLED THE SUFFERING OF THE PEOPLE..
the people they claim to represent... #18000. is d minimum wage set with a dollar conversion of about $120 but now its $56.25 wat dat implies that the cost of things have exprecienced about a 120% increase all based on the same 18000 minimum wage... so you already have people paying more for the same product they bought 120% cheaper a few years back... then in your wisdom to save cost of governance you remove fuel subsidy .. thus increasing the sufferings of the people.. government ought to be for the people.. by the people... and of them... what we are experiencing is a MASTER AND SLAVE RELATIONSHIP.... ITS PAINFULL
if labour do not organise occupy nigeria ahhhhh... we ar finished
APC........ ASSOCIATION OF PAINGIVING CÙÑT..
E GO BETTER...
*******GEJ A MAN OF VISION*********
*******GEJ A HERO OF DEMOCRACY*********

Nigerians deserve to suffer. We elected a hypocrite who never did well without quota. What does Bubu know about economic development? Of all PMB'S shortcomings, his biggest problem is arrogance. He thinks he alone understands Nigeria.

In brief....we were in the position we were in 1982...when the oil price dropped...because Nigeria's economic policy since independence has always been to rely on revenue from resources we sell.

In the 1960's and early 1970's...it was agriculture and mining. Then in the mid 1970's....we lost our guaranteed market in the UK. We were ''lucky''....we had discovered oil....which became our new cash cow. (If Nigeria had had no oil...we would have been like Ghana was in the 1970's and 1980's.....very very broke).

The problem with oil...and with agriculture and mining ....is simple. We do not control the price of these commodities. As such...when prices go up....we are rich. When prices go down...see the oil drop of 1982....we get broke.

Sure we can blame the North....but Southern leaders like OBJ and GEJ did not show much signs of changing. (Yes...GEJ built car plants. Car assembly plants that rely on high oil prcies for enough cash to import the raw materials needed to keep them running. Once the cash falls...the plants stop running well. We were there before.....see PAN and Volks of Nigeria...roaring in the 70's...whimpering in the 1980's).

The way I see it.....I hope Buhari means it when he talks about diversification Because...if it turns out to be just talk...I think he should go in 2019. We should have learned our lesson...resource dependency does us no good.

Well said, your points made sense, and also i expected you add other side, if Buhari really means it and it isn't just talk what then, you ended like everybody else but i love your points..

do you think this will affect those in government? even if fuel sell for 400 per litre, they will afford it confortably. it is the average Nigerian that will always suffer and as long as that is the case, nothing will ever move in this country. talking about having more money to spend, since we've been recovering money from looters, what has been done with it? democracy is government for the people but in Nigeria it is government for the government

Stop wasting time on idiiots. Pump price is at its lowest everywhere except naija. Now we have to pay more. Where is the economic law of demand and supply? The outside world is paying less for our fuel but locally, the price is skyrocketing. It can only be bad policies and not due to any economic law.

1.The tarrif increase was part of the enabling law that brought the DISCOS into existence...which was formulated and signed by GEJ in 2014. There was nothing the current govt could do....short of renationalising the whole power sector...which would have led to them facing lawsuits in court.

2.Taxation necessary because we do not have the cash we used to have thanks to the fall in oil price. I t may be a harsh decision...but the alternative is taking more loans from the IMF.

3.He is the new guy. He has to build connections. I used to critique GEJ's trips too...until someone explained how one of the trips worked. I shut up after that.

4.WHich was present during GEJ's time too. It has always been there. Hazards of being a Nigerian. (It was worse in the 1960s' and the 1980's by the by).

5.Which was brought to you by the low oil price...meaning that we do not have the revenue to subsidize...and by the fact that we import more than 60% of our PMS used in this country. (GEJ promised to build refineries which he never built).

6.Again...an effect of being resource reliant. When you rely on revenue from resources you sell(whose price we do not control)....inflation goes up when the price goes down because you have less dollars to import....meaning you need more naira to buy dollars...which is passed onto us in the form of higher prices. (The Govt's current foreign exchange restriction is preventing the situation from being worse). That is why we have to develop industry based on local raw materials.

7.Effects of Dutch disease...and fall in foreign exchange (Which Buhari has no control over.).

8.Living costs were high for the majority during GEJ and even those who preceded huim. Even at high oil price...we still have most people living in poverty. That is why we must industrialise.

Bro,when the price of crude oil comes down, the price of fuel in the international market also falls reducing the cost of of subsidy.

what dumb point are you making bro, they were looting like no mans business but because of your hypocritical nature, nothing was wrong with it, if they had removed subsidy and the price went to N140 or N150 it would have been fine but that didn't happen and let's stop blaming everything on APC, most people kicked against it, we protested now is the best time for it to go altho also the economy is really bad right now and we are to face the worst of it, what i expected was reasonable arguments on minimum wage since what was used to determine the current N18, 000 was the the then price of the dollar, since it has risen and no sign of it returning back to it's old price, that should also be revised to at least reduce to sufferings of the masses, let's stop all this APC, PDP thing jare, blaming them is the easy way out, if we want change, let's go and and get it, hold them accountable and more

Credit @jlinkd78
The scam by this fiendish APC govt has become so humongous and legendary that they themselves can't even pretend about it again. I have always been a strong advocate of total subsidy removal cos I am convinced DAT in d end d interplay of demand and supply will stabilize prices cum availability and eventually drive investors in d direction of building refineries in Nigeria. It is painful DAT GEJ who saw this 4yrs ago was hounded, vilified and called unprintable names by this same actors who argued then that subsidy removal can only come up after refineries have started working at full capacity. These gladiators promised PMS cud sell at 40naira if voted in. A 67% increment (from 86.50 to 145 Naira per litre) can only come from an insensitive govt with a medieval economic mindset. Gej promised DAT with subsidy removal then when crude was above $100 we can buy PMS at 140 naira per litre so how come with crude less than $40 we are to be getting same product at 145naira. It is a universally known fact that when d cost of raw material is cheap (in this case d crude oil) , d tantamount price of d finished product will equally be more affordable. The most annoying part is DAT all those loquacious right activists have all activated their mute buttons, d state agents are intolerable to lawful protests and d zombies are congenitally fanatical. The govt is equally truthful by half cos u can't determine d selling price of a product when d marketers sourced their Forex as PMB can never stabilize d price of d dollar so this 145Naira upper threshold can't be sustained. The best d govt wud have done was to sell Forex to mkters @ official exchange rate and strictly monitor DAT it was used for payment of d exact qty of PMS being imported. Gej irked Nigerians with his new Yr 2012 broadcast but in this case d President never found us worthy of his state broadcast as his junior Minister has issued d fiat thru press statement on a day he is far away in d UK. Such a natnl policy direction?. When all d the critics of this wicked govt with intransigent spirit were being persecuted some were happy but now we know why.

At any rate.....if we want to pay low prices without subsidy....we have to build more refineries. Why the subsidy regimen does not make sense is because we are importing most of the fuel we subsidize.

We need to consider going back to bicycles. No jokes. State govts should start designing bicycle lanes on roads. This is done in a lot of developed countries to reduce emissions and traffic. At least its a cheaper alternative for short distance travel.

Companies should consider sponsoring bycicle travel - supplying branded bicycles and providing parking points - like Barclay's bank did for London. There was a time this country was not producing oil. All we did was import. We survived and our economy was even rich. The govt shld look for creative ways to diversify this economy & make cheaper transport easier.

This is not the time for buhari to be gallivanting up & down. He should be placating d citizenry & explaining d direction of these his policies. One of these days his insensitivity & lack of communication will be his doom. He will soon get d kano treatment all over this country.

And what is kemi adeosun saying abt this. At least when gej proposed his subsidy, nkonjo iweala made a case for it. Buhari and his nonexistent economic team are quite d dissapointment. Pat utomi was right.
