NANS To Buhari: Apologise And Sack Education Minister now by hayzee545(m): 3:24pm On May 12, 2016
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), have asked President Muhammadu Buhari to tender an open apology and dismiss the minister of education Mallam Adamu Adamu, for not reinstating 13 vice chancellors, who were earlier sacked by the President.

A press release by the national student union body goes thus:

THE POSITION OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS OVER THE CONTINUED REFUSAL OF THE MINISTER OF EDUCATION TO REINSTATE THE UNLAWFULLY SACKED 13 VICE CHANCELLORS OF FEDERAL UNIVERSITIES AND HIS GRAND PLOT TO DERAIL ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

The National Association of Nigerian Students as the largest force of intellectuals and intelligentsia in our great continent of Africa will remain steadfast and untiring in upholding the values of truth, due process and preservation of the integrity and sanctity of the Nigerian educational sector.

We are particularly concerned about the tactically rapidly eroding standards of our educational Institutions on the prime indices of academic excellence, students' welfare, and overall sustenance of processes proper administration in our schools.

In this respect, we have remained steadfast in voicing our appropriate displeasure at the dictatorial manner the Minister of Education - Mallam Adamu Adamu - is conducting the affairs under this sensitive Ministry. Mallam Adamu's impunity began rising to it's never ending crest with his arbitrary pronouncement of the sack of Vice Chancellors of 13 Federal Universities without any further recourse to the Universities rules or any extant law to the said effect. The simplest explanation the Minister had before the National Assembly was that "those who worked politically for the government needed compensation".
Several stakeholders including our great Association - NANS - appealed to the Minister of Education against the Gestapo manner he swiftly sacked and immediately replaced 13 Vice Chancellors of Federal Universities and the grave dangers such a negative precedence would portend for the stability of the educational system, yet Mallam Adamu Adamu gave deaf ears to these balanced demands despite the merits therein.

Indeed throughout the ensuing stalemate, several other factors such as statements, directives and actions played out which only went further to buttress the Minister's recalcitrance for taking correction just as he lacked the finesse for conducting the affairs of this great Ministry within the ambits of due process. Key among these include:

1. President Muhammadu Buhari's open apology to Nigerians over the unconstitutional dissolution of the Governing Boards of Federal Universities with his directive that the same order of correction be applied in the case of the sack of these Vice Chancellors.

2. The open apology of the Minister,s representative before the House of Representatives and his admittance to the fact that the Ministry adopted a wrong approach in sacking the said Vice Chancellors.

3. The Minister's consistent approach of avoiding stakeholders who have variously posited the simple solution to the matter.
May we also bring this to the knowledge of the Concerned public that the Minister has rather chosen to attack the image of our renowned Association using faceless groups and phoney characters all in a bid to avoid doing the right thing.

The wrong precedence the Minister of Education - Mallam Adamu Adamu seeks to entrench has already began to exert a negative toll on our educational institutions as seen in the numerous upheavals taking place on our campuses without the due attention of the Minister.

Having duly notified the Minister of the need for him to reverse his wrong stand and on the expiration of the ultimatum given by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), we have come to demand the immediate resignation of Mallam Adamu Adamu from the lofty office of Minister of Education. To this extent, we have mobilize our SUG Presidents, National and Zonal Structures to persistently keep vigil on this premises till this singular resolution of ours is met. Education must be salvaged from the precipice of rot and now is the time.
Aluta continua... Victoria ascerta!!!

Although NANS have lost it, they are right on this. The action of the government is totally inconsistent with our extant laws. I believe the Vice Chancellors were sacked because they were appointed by the last admin.
The APC must learn that leadership is continuum and has no stop.
