If you read critically and digest thoroughly, you will observe that I didn't say Microbiologists don't easily get jobs. What I'm saying is different from getting a job. I mean growing a career in your chosen field.

My brother I am not jobless. Do you know what it means to be jobless? I am a computer literate not a guru. I am not idling away as you may assume. Learn IT learn IT, I would love to be a guru there but the learning is not for free. If I can lay my hands on a loan from an individual and do Masters degree programme along with some upgrade in the IT world, that would do.

OP I understand your frustration as a Nigerian but those courses are not limited. Zoology for instance... There's Hydrobiology, Physiology, Parasitology, Entomology, Ecology, Histology to name a few. The latter has to do with bones. Can even be combined with Anthropology and you find yourself as an autopsy specialist. Thing is, you don't have to limit yourself to your first degree. Hope dey!

An astute observation.

I think it's because of this insane push that success in life equates to having a college degree, any college degree.

It's not limited to Nigeria only. Here in the US you have people graduating in African studies. For the love of God, of what use is that to anyone.

In these days when we're talking of colonizing Mars someone is graduating in African studies

But hey, they have a college degree.

Are u telling me that someone who studied archeology but works in the bank is growing his/her career? Except u are aiming for a career switch...then two things are involved! (1) U didn't have passion or any plan for the course u have studied or (2) U don't have passion or interest for ur banking job; u do it just to keep body and soul together.

Great work OP. If you can even teach and earn 12,000 Naira because of the course you studied in school, big congratulations to you.

I missed first class by a very narrow margin and I have never held any job position related to what I studied in the university and it's somehow painful to me even though I have a good career in another field totally unrelated to my first degree.

Imagine studying one of the following SPANISH, PORTUGUESE, RUSSIAN AND GERMAN.

In University of Ibadan, there's a course called CLASSICS, they learn LATIN and GREEK language, history, culture etc.



Only min. of foreign affairs and very few other places can employ you and you'll use the knowledge from any of these
