Its been proven again. The best historical secrets are revealed when the Royal fathers bicker or jostle publicly (often on newspaper pages, and in the legal courts) for power, or for the throne . The current race to wear the Bini crown sees a Bini version of history agreeing with Yoruba history . This version has Oranmiyan visiting Benin and establishing a new ruling house, as the Yoruba have always maintained. By the way, Oranmiyan, was a grandson ofOduduwa, the great Yoruba warrior king deity. His father was Okanbi, Oduduwa’s only son Oranmiyan was one of 16 grandchildren, which are named in this partial family tree . The Yoruba hold that Oranmiyan bore a son with a Bini woman, and this son was the first Oba of Benin. More recently there’s been a new and controversial claim from some Bini quarters that it was the other way round and Oduduwa was a runaway Bini slave who founded Ile Ife, and who later sent his son/grandson to rule in Benin!
“The Ekiokpagha treaty is the compulsory rent a new Oba-elect must pay before he is pronounced an Oba of Benin kingdom and before he is also allowed occupation of the Benin kingdom leased to Oba Eweka 1 by Ogiamien Erebo in 12.00AD.” “The Ekiokpagha treaty clearly defined the status of Ogiamien as aborigine and permanent landlord while the Oba of Benin kingdom as a permanent tenant,”
High Chief Monday Wehere, director of information and external affairs of the Ogiamien family said on Tuesday.
“The Ogiamien is the custodian of the 32 previous Ogisos that had ruled Igodomigodo and the aborigine Binis for over 300 years before the forceful introduction of obaship against the decision of the aborigine Binis while the Oba of Benin (the family) are descendants of the sixth Ooni of Ife, Oba Oranmiyan, the son of Okanbi. “Therefore, it would be difficult for Ogiamien to pledge allegiance to an invader – Oba of Benin – who is also a tenant,” “Oba Eweka dynasty has no relationship whatsoever with the Ogiso/Ogiamien dynasty and they are now forcing themselves into our dynasty by fraudulently claiming that Prince Eheneden Erediauwa is now the 70th ruler of Benin kingdom.”
“This is completely false. THEY ARE DESCECEDANTS OF ORANMIYAN ,” In bolded above is what the Yoruba tradition has always stated. The practice of sending the heads of demised Oba of Bini to Ile Ife was apparently stopped in a bid to hide the history it has been claimed . History can never be re-written.

While the word Ogiame is not Yoruba the word "Oba" is Yoruba so who is lying and what's the motive of the lie? Perhaps to rig history ? undecided
I am so happy history is coming out. I just read on Naij that the middle name of the departed Oba of Benin, late oba bears Solomon igbinioghodua akenzua erediauwa , igbinioghodua means descent of odua or oduduwa shocked

We told them Benin throne is oduduwa's property it belongs to yorubas. But they came up with tales of lost prince.

There are many people who benefit from causing disharmony among others. The best way to treat them is to ignore them

Please tell the itsekiri, who history claimed to be the original and only surviving descendant of the ogiso dynasty. They have threatened that they will not give the heir -apparent peace unless "he pays his rent "
Please don't get worked up, we should be grateful the truth is coming out no thanks to the late Oba.
Who do you think has much to benefit by distorting the history? All historical facts have since confirmed that the bini aborigines may not be Yoruba but the Benin monarchy is from Ile Ife.

I love my Benin people and they are still my brothers and sisters, but denying hishistory is dumb, foolish and ignorant, but denying it with flimsy and shameful historical facts that your own runnaway slave sent his son back to his masters in Benin to take over the kingdom and rule as their king when in fact they used to lock up or kill runaway slaves.

Who let their own slaves rule them?

Oba Ewedo
{About 1255AD-1280AD}
Prince Efabo ascended the throne after the death of his father with the title Oba Ewedo. Seen by historians as the second greatest monarch to reign in Benin kingdom.
It must be observed that the three first Obas - Eweka I, Uwakhuanhen and Ehenmihen had their political support from the elders {Edion who later became known as Uzama} Oba Ewedo discontented with the rudely behaviors of the Edionisen {five Elders} uzama he called them ‘Emwan nei zama omwan’ meaning people who don't show respect to their Oba this was later corrupted into Uzama. This is not surprising because they brought Oromiyan from Uhe [IIe Ife]. These Edion more or less treated the monarchy as primus inter pares which position Oba Ewedo therefore embarked upon a risky job of suppressing the Uzamas and miraculously, he did not only succeed in doing so but eventually suppressed Ogiamien who was virtually in control of the City State. The final settlement came at the battle of "Ekiokpagha" which the Oba fought with Ogiamien who was defeated.
After the victory Oba Ewedo received the royal stool from Ogiamen and build the present royal palace.
Ogiamien was appointed a chief converting Ogiamien his nickname to a title.

The pantomimic re-enactment of this battle is now a part of the coronation ritual usually performed on the seventh day after a new Oba is crowned. It is in this light that one may venture to say that Ewedo really consolidated the position of Benin monarchy.
In other to make the Edionise five elders {Uzama} more, accountable to him he reduces their power, which before now was equals with the Oba.
He prohibits all chiefs including the uzama from sitting when they are before him instead they must stand in a row to identify him from them.
He prohibits all chiefs from carrying Ada the royal sword of office before him.
To weaker the power of Uzama the more he created the title Iyase [I ya ona se uwa] meaning this I create to be higher then you all. Most of the functions and powers of the Edionise [five elders] Uzama like the conferment of titles both hereditary and non hereditary were transferred to Chief Iyase who does so with the instructions of the Oba. The Iyase now became the second in Command & the kingdom Prime Minister. The only important function of the Uzama was to officiate at the crowning ceremony of a new Oba.

No hating o but I still think Odede is overrated.

Why?

He didn't do anything in Bini other than to sperminate their lady over there and left.

He didn't do much in Oyo, he sperminated a woman and after being sent out of Oyo Ile, he returned to Ife without conquering the Nupe & Bariba, ensuring a return to Oyo Ile & stopping Owu hegemony.

He did not do much in Osile, he impregnated someone there and returned.

Oyo, the place that gave/gives Odede his reputation was built by Sango who also set the standard for empire/expansion. Sango should really get the propa for Oyo.

Oranmiyan returned to Ife and planted the seed for the ruling houses.

Other than sperminating women and having kids who went on to become royalty, Odede didn't do much. grin

His brother (from the same mother), Ajibogun the Owa Ilesa also known as Obokun won more did the same with Ijesa, he (& his siblings) just wasn't lucky enough to have subdued Ekiti people. Else, Ijesa empire would have been very large.

OGIE-MIEN HAS ALWAYS BEEN A CHIEF/DUKE, WHOSE AREA OF CONTROL IS PRESENT CITY CENTER (SAKPONOBA,RING ROAD,OBA MARKET AND EKENWAN ROAD) , PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE WERE OTHER DUKES LIKE OGIE EGOR, OGIE USEN ETC, IT DID NOT MEAN THEY WERE ROYAL OR HAS BLOODLINE TO THE OGISOS.

SO WHEN ONE OF THE DUKES WENT ROGUE? IN THIS CASE THE OGIEAMIEN. THE OBA DEFEATED HIM AND BUILT HIS MODERN DAY PALACE THERE TO SHOW SUPERIORITY AND STRIKE FEAR INTO ANY DISSIDENT IN FUTURE AND AS A MARK OF REMEMBRANCE? A NEW OBA REPLICATES THAT BATTLE AT SAKPONBA ROAD TO SHOW HOW THE OBA MOVED INTO HIS PALACE .....THE PALACE PREVIOUSLY WAS AT USEN BEFORE THE BATTLE AT SAKPONBA
