What I Told Buhari During Closed Door Meeting - Wike by boman2014: 3:33pm On May 31, 2016 |
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has opened up on what he discussed with President Muhammadu Buhari during their closed door meeting at the presidential villa. According to him, they talked about tackling cultism and insecurity in the state, The Punch reports. Governor Wike said measures have been put in place to tackle cultism across the state Wike said he told Buhari that his administration would combat insecurity in Abua/Odual, Ahoada-East, Ahoada-West and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government areas of the state. “Measures have been put in place to tackle cultism across the state. When I met with the President, I told him that we would tackle cultism and insecurity in the four local government areas,” he said. The governor disclosed this on Monday, May 30, in Port Harcourt during a town hall meeting tagged, “Accounting for Governor Nyesom Wike’s Administration: One Year After.” Wike said the economy has been stabilised with the strategic release of funds for the payment of salaries and for key projects. “We have stabilised the economy of Rivers State since we took over the reins of leadership in the state. We achieved the stabilisation of the economy by injecting N151bn as salaries and payment of contractors. These funds have helped us to rebuild our economy, which was badly damaged by the immediate past administration,” he stated. Governor Wike noted that more investors had become confident to invest in the state and the renewal of infrastructures in Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor local government areas had enhanced the economy of the state. According to him, 46 roads had been reconstructed under the “Operation Zero Potholes” while 15 roads abandoned by the immediate past administration were completed. The governor promised the people of Rivers state that no local government area would be denied the impact of good governance as his government would execute a key project in each of the 23 local government councils. He assured that his administration would continue to subsidise education, saying, “I did not promise free education, because I know that it does not work. I only assured that we will provide quality education for the people. There is no free education anywhere in the country. All those claiming free education are playing politics.” The high point of the town hall meeting was the immediate employment offered to three physically-challenged persons, This Day reports. https://www.naij.com/845747-discussed-buhari-closed-door-meeting-wike-finally-opens.html?source=index_main |
