Four years after the death of his wife, Stella, former President Olusegun Obasanjo has finally re-married.

The elder statesman now lives with his new wife at his hilltop mansion in GRA, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

OBJ’s new wife, Mama Funso, as she is popularly called, is one of the numerous women who had children for him. She is described as a very beautiful and good natured woman. Her daughter, Funso is in her early 20s.

Before now, Mama Funso was based in England. It was gathered that OBJ’s new marriage was facilitated by his children, led by his first daughter, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, who confirmed it to P.M.News this morning.

The children were reported to have prevailed on their father to take another wife because they realised that he had a strong yearning which could only be filled, not by the numerous ladies jostling for his attention, but by a wife. Moreover, they were said to be concerned about how his meals were prepared.

Obasanjo’s former wife, Stella (nee Abebe) died on 23 October 2005, while undergoing cosmetic surgery in Spain, and her departure had created a yawning gap in the life of the former president.

Sources disclosed that Obasanjo’s children were uncomfortable with their father’s closeness to a popular Lagos born Princess, who was alleged to be positioning herself as the official hostess of the former Nigerian president.

This ageless looking lady, who is in her early 60s, was almost becoming a regular fixture in Obasanjo’s life until one of his children, Funke, made a decisive move and barred her from visiting.

After this incident, his daughters allegedly decided to marry another wife for their father. After a careful search and scrutiny of all the women who had children for their father, OBJ’s daughters were most favourably disposed to the choice of Mama Funso.

Quite expectedly, Mama Funso has been performing her role with a strong sense of responsibility. Not only does she prepare OBJ’s meals, she also acts as his hostess as well.

Mama Funso also accompanies Obasanjo to social functions. She was very much visible during the recent birthday ceremony of Madam Eweje, Chief Obasanjo’s younger sister.

Stella Obasanjo, 60, died during a plastic surgery in Molding clinic in Peerto Banus area of Marbela in Southern Spain on Sunday 23 October 2005.
