Education has lost its value in this hopeless country. How did we get here? How much is the newspaper allowance of those thieves in the National Assembly? Even their dogs are maintained with over 23k a week. This is very awful!

What type of students do you expect to come from a teacher who is not paid enough? The psychology of the teacher will be affected and therefore his ability to achieve his instructional objectives will also be affected. This country is embarrassingly unsupportive.

However, I encourage those without means of income to grab the opportunity and work towards something better. I also hope this is not a way to stylishly reduce the salary of teachers in Nigeria.

Then go and look for a job.

Look at it this way, this is not really an emplyment, but a skill aquisition programme. In the actual sense, you're being taught a skill, while getting paid for it.

I hear the scheme is going to produce 500000 teachers yea? Now imagine someone collecting 23k. How do u expect him or her to out enough input into the job with such meagre salary. People who will do it will just be there to pass time and collect laptop and in the end. It will fail again.

The fact is that the govt is failing. They promised jobs in the campaign and after one year of nothing, they are trying to use the scheme to cover our eyes. Open your mind. It's a fucking setup.

Why not use enough money to create companies. Create factories that work and employ qualified people with good income. As such ppl will take their job seriously. Lessen the number of unemployed a bit and take further steps from there.

We have resources that are not being used. We are suggesting from things we have. Create companies to solve such problems and produce products that will reduce our imports. After all they have seemingly collected some billions back

Sincerely if 500,000 will be employed out of the unemployed graduate i think it will be a very welcome development as this will be felt in almost every home , 23k is actually small but i believe its better than staying unemployed as many graduate out there can not even afford transport fees to any interview they have,if well implemented i think this government may actually do something about the unemployment that is killing the youth population in this country, imagine 10k will be recruited to Nigerian police.

As an educationist and a practitioner in the education sector, I call on fellow practitioners to advise the federal government to shelve the idea of recruiting auxiliary teachers with zero knowledge of educational psychology which among others equips teachers with the knowledge of selecting learning objectives to guide instruction and evaluation.

this is what breeds corruption cos after taking the job, they indulge in various corrupt practises at the school to survive. let's be honest, with fuel at 145/ltr that amount can barely take care of transportation in a month. I've always said that the structures in place foster corruption
sort out the structure first and then it will be easier to get rid of corruption. fighting corruption directly will not work.

Clearly, these jobs/empowerment/social intervention programme is not meant for people who think 23K is too small. How much do you get paid as a Corp member? Yet we taught and prepared lesson notes.

It's a social intervention program to cost government 138bn yearly in salaries, we have not factored in the cost of the laptops, running costs, staff salaries and logistics. You can gain teaching experience and cross to other schools if you get a better job.

To all the people saying 23k is better than nothing, this is how we keep ourselves in a state of perpetual poverty and misery. Why should we be paid less than enough to get by? How are we different from those lazy senators collecting allowances of millions of naira? This is how they keep us desperate so that if things get worse, they can increase to 27k or 30k and people will still call it improvement. We should learn to demand for our rights. We should see ourselves as workers, not beggars. A worker should be paid his due, nothing less should suffice. Besides, most people rushing for the job will get it and do nothing resulting in children who are not being groomed for the future. Teachers should really be appreciated in this country. They are the key to solving a lot of our problems.

Bottomline: The govt should provide a better pay package and not hand out peanuts.

Rubbish idea. What's the sense in paying a graduate 23k for 2 years? Why not give the person this amount as a lump sum to start a business? That comes to N552,000. So does it not make sense to give out N500k loans to graduates batch by batch every quarter? Won't that have a better effect on the economy in the short to medium term than employing teachers everywhere who will not be motivated to do give his best because of the low salary? Why not give him startup capital and encourage him to fish instead of giving him fish?

At this time as a nation, should we be increasing our recurrent expenditure?

I hope nigerian youths now realise that the APC government does not have the political will to do what needs to be done.

1. Align the pay package of the 3 arms of government with the current minimum wage
2. Cut down on excesses and wastage in government such as duplicity of functions shown in minister and minister of state, foreign medical treatment and trips, special advisers of special advisers and convoys, etc
3. Promote a bill to merge the national assembly into 1 arm as demonstrated in Tanzania
4. Removal of pensions and funds to past political office holders

Nigerian youths will rather grope for a gross pay of Ngn 23,000 before taxes with no terminal benefits rather than challenge themselves to seeking other entrepreneural ways to benefit from. Things are hard but been stuck in a 23k minus job with no guarantee of constant monthly pay is giving up to hopelessness and downright poverty.

And to all the buhari lovers I say with no iota of apology, you don't know what governance is about and your generations to come will wonder what their ancestor's thinking capacities were
