Liberia has been declared Ebola free by the World Health Organisation (WHO) for the fourth time since the epidemic began in December 2013.

This declaration came 42 days after tests showed no trace of the virus on the last infected person. However, Liberia will now enters a 90-day surveillance period.

Liberia was first declared Ebola free on 9th May 2015, with new cases re-emerging. The most recent flare-up was traced to a woman who had been exposed to the virus in Guinea and travelled to Liberia with her children.

Liberia has witnessed more than 10,600 cases and
4,808 Ebola deaths since it's first announcement in
March, 2014.
