I have a question for our pastors and other believers in relation to female dressing.

We keep going on about women and how they show their cleavage etc, but our women until the 20th century and even in some parts of Africa today did/do not even wear bras. They have lived happily like this for thousands of years and yet sexual sin is more prevalent NOW , in the 21st century that WOMEN are covered head to toe.

Some examples ;

Calabar women :

Igbo Women :

In other cases African women barely covered their breasts and mini dresses ( traditional ) were the order of the day.

So what has changed over the past 100 years in comparison to thousands of years ago that drives Christian and Muslim MEN in particular into a manic frenzy when they see a woman's cleavage, could this not be because they either lack self control or should not be in close proximity to women who are not their wives etc.

There are men who will be turned on even at the sight of a woman's lips , or eyes, or even ankles , surely they are the ones to get a freaking grip of themselves and not the women ?

I may be wrong, but we can agree to disagree..

Further , it is a KNOWN fact that most of the so called sisters in church who have committed adultery with their so called man of God have been properly dressed according to strict church instruction and yet this has not prevented sexual immorality.

Who is fooling who here and why are these religious men obsessed with the female anatomy.

frosbel where have you been? well i see the control on how the female dress as a control mechanism. it has not stopped fornication and adultery and will not stop it. the thing is that the heart of men is wicked and no matter how the female folks cover their bodies, people will still lust after them.

The Bible encourages modest dressing, before you start criticizing ask yourself, does being bare chested show modesty?
Well, these dressings in the pictures u posted are mostly worn on festivals and ceremonies. I guess you'll start walking with barebody with just leafs to cover ur torso grin

I understand what u are trying to bring out here, the Bible says if your eye is making u sin, pull it out. In other words it means we should pummel(deaden) our bodies as respect fornication.
Everything boils down to our minds, but if you walk around with cleavage and tight fitted clothes and make a brother to sin, then you'll also be held accountable.

Modesty Pays.

That's why I always laugh when Nairalanders say nudity is not part of African culture grin grin If only Africans took time to study how their culture was practiced years ago maybe we will not be having these ignorant statements. I would not even mention homosexual practices in some African cultures in the past as that one is another topic for another thread entirely.

@Back to the thread, I think I will blame the over-sexualisation (by media)of these female body parts. Bre*sts that would usually be seen as normal in the past, young females can walk to the farm or stream without problem. These days a simple chocolate advert will feature a female touching herself seductively and you begin to ask if you are watching a chocolate ad or soft porn? Then you have music videos with females doing various seductive dances while the male just dance around fully clothed. These pictures watched countless times by people work the same way brainwashing/indoctrination works. Teach something repeatedly, over and over again using various outreach platforms and it would seem good or normal as time goes on.

Whatever the case maybe, I think I agree with you that Self-control is necessary.

I remember when I went back to my home village........

Here I saw Girls my age and a bit older bathing naked in the river and no one gave a hoot...... Infact, all my friend did (we went to the river to fetch water) was to talk to them like no Big deal....

I just looked, stunned, as the girls moved with no particular fear, just giggling and playing around.....

I then imagined what will happen if this were in the City. The Uproar from the outlets will be enough to make a dead man cover his ears....

It all boils down to percepton. We're overexposed to sex, every single friggin day. The self-control definitely lags and slips....

There is really no big deal in nudity; Africans had, and are still living their free lives in the nude and they don't care. To say they are miserable is pure rubbish....

It really depends on our state of mind.Back then,in restrospect when africans were more closer to the animal kingdom, they saw themselves as fully dressed.Infact, what we know of covering some parts of our body with leaves, was probably learnt from animals. You wont see animals so bothered about their unclothedness, would you?

It's more of a societal issue in general than religious. That's why as irreligious as you may be, you are clothed. We were conquered, and adopted the culture of our conquerors, including the bad habits.

Yes of course, it's all a matter of conforming to the culture of our 'Lords' , but the problem I have is the hypocrisy of the religious folk who go on and on about women dressing and never men's dressing , with such a dedication and obsession that you may begin to think that salvation depended on dress.

They will abuse and condemn their culture and consider that of their 'Lords' or Masters as superior.

Everything in life has a reason. For some reasons I don't know yet, the middle eastern people Hebrews/Arabs/Persians began suppressing their women, adult young women most cover up, sometimes stay hidden or secluded from probably the prying eyes of other men.

Part of the ancient Mosaic or Hammurabi laws says "thou shall not commit adultery & thou shall not covet another mans wife"
probably when hard working men were busy in the field or rearing their goats, some lazy ones were busy sleeping with and enjoying the wives of the men on the field.

Now that we fellow religions that originate from the Middle East and unconsciously We follow their culture and way of thinking including their perversion.

But you know we that live in 'civilized' places have been conditioned to view nudity = sex. So you mean you weren't 'surprised' at all to see grown n*ked women frolicking about? grin
