Visitors and passers-by at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja witnessed chaos today as the controversial former Chairman of the party, Ali Modu Sherif was blocked from gaining access into the secretariat by armed policemen.

Sheriff stormed the Headquarters of the party as early as 7.00am on Monday with an entourage of supporters with the view to assuming office as the chairman despite the inauguration of the caretaker committee led by Ahmed Markafi. Witnesses report that trouble started when his convoy was stopped from driving into the premises of the secretariat by the police.

The situation forced Sheriff to come down from his car to address a few journalists who were around saying he was shocked that he was prevented from entering his office as chairperson of the party. He said his action was based on the court judgement which was delivered in Lagos that affirmed him as the authentic chairman of the party. He revealed that there was nothing like "Markafi Caretaker Committee," and he would not recognise such committee.

Sheriff, who was visibly angry, then asked his driver to drive him to the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase at Force Headquarters to direct his men to vacate the premises of the secretariat.

As at the time of filling this report, his convoy and hundreds of placards carrying supporters were still at the front of the building waiting for him to meet with the Inspector General of Police.
