OP, I don't think they were guarding the hospital. Soldiers don't perform sentry duties without guns. I think they were men of the army medical corps. Take another look at their insignia.

So you don't know different branches of army have their unique insignia ? The infantry have theirs, the airborne division have theirs, mechanized, armour,medicals,SOF, etc all have their insignia that differentiate them from other units.
