Nemesis4u,seen this? It seems the PAK FA,SU -57 has issues.

While Russian media calls the Su-57 an "aerial ghost," a senior scientist working on stealth aircraft for the US called it a "dirty aircraft," with many glaring flaws that would light up radars scanning for the plane.

Additionally, two of the plane's most fearsome weapons, the Kh-35UEm a subsonic, anti-ship cruise missile, and the nuclear-capable BrahMos-A supersonic cruise missile, can't fit in the internal weapons bay and must hang from the wings, as the Diplomat's Franz-Stefan Gady reports.

On Monday, in trial firing at the Pokhran Ranges in Rajasthan, the advanced towed artillery gun system (ATAGS) being indigenously developed for the IA demonstrated its potential.

The 155-millimetre, 52-calibre gun-howitzer fired three shells out to a world-record distance of 47.2 kilometres from the gun position. This was achieved using special, long-range ammunition called “high explosive – base bleed” (HE – BB). In comparison, 155-millimetre, 52-calibre guns in service worldwide fire this ammunition to maximum ranges of 40-45 kilometres.

Earlier, on Saturday, the same gun had broken another record by firing “high explosive – boat tail” (HE – BT) ammunition to a range of 37.2 kilometres.

Range, accuracy and consistency are the key attributes of an artillery gun. A longer range allows more area to be engaged from a “gun position”, without having to redeploy (or shift) the guns.

The secret of the ATAGS longer range is its larger chamber – 25 litres, compared to 23 litres in most 155-millimetre guns. A larger chamber packs in more high explosive propellant, which shoots out the warhead further.

After the gun successfully completes development and firing trials, the army is likely to procure at least 2,000 ATAGS. At an estimated Rs 15 crore apiece, that will result in Rs 30,000 crore in business for the production eco-system, benefiting a large number of private defence firms.

With the current round of “summer trials” having successfully concluded in Pokhran, the ATAGS will now undergo modifications and prepare for “winter trials” in December, probably in Sikkim. Each vendor will build three more ATAGs gun prototypes to expedite trials.

Another global first in the ATAGS is its all-electric drive, which supersedes the more unreliable hydraulic drives in other towed guns. The all-electric drive operates all the ATAGS’ gun controls: ammunition handling, opening and closing the breech, and ramming the round into the chamber.

The ATAGS is the world’s only gun with a six-round “automated magazine” that fires a six-round burst in just 30 seconds. Most other existing 155-millimetre, 52-calibre guns have three-round magazines, which must be reloaded after firing three rounds.

A high “burst fire” capability will provide the army a significant advantage since artillery causes most casualties in the initial burst of fire, when enemy soldiers are caught in the open (and not after they dive into their trenches).

South African G6 holds the record for highest range using V-LAP round.

1 crore is 10 mn rupees, and 65 rupees is 1$. A crore is roughly 160,000 $,so 15 crore is 2.4 mn$ per unit. Not bad compared to analogues, especially with its unparalleled ROF.

US M 777 155 Howitzer US$4.50 ml

SA G 5 155 Howitzer US$2.50 mln

Turkey Pantir 155 Howitzer US$3.50 mln

Singapore SLWH Pegasus US$5.00 mln

Singapore FH 2000 US $ 5.0 MN

the cost of 15 crores is just a rough estimate , during production run of 2000+ gun its cost will drop down to less than 2 million dollars.

the gun r presently prototypes so no way to accurately gauge their final cost

AFAIK IAF is not happy

FGFA/SU57 needs more matured systems and refinements

2 sqds are expected to join RuAF by 2023 with improved item 30 engine churning out 110/180 Kn of individual thrust.

aircraft still is under optimization progress to decrease weight, decrease the IR and better the SFCs.

IAF will have to wait till 2023-25 for the SU57 with the the matured item 30 engine and finalized sub systems to come online.

So India wishes to delay this program further. As of now IAF has limited the requirements to just 3 sqds and maximum of 5 sqds. The pre conditions includes the learnings from MKI deal and hence will take time for negotiation + agreement.

during high altitude cold condition tests in LEH which LCA passed successfully much to IAFs chagrin. grin grin grin

also which F16 and Gripen had previously failed in quite a few test parameters . the test conditions r tough and rarely encounter elsewhere so cant blame F16 and Gripen too much since both were designed to operate in their home conditions.

plus IAF test conditions r very crazy grin

eg.

during extreme cold weather trials at Leh the tests comprised of a cold soak, where the aircraft was kept outside uninsulated for a long period and then started up.

like the aircraft has to make three consecutive starts using gas turbine starter at -15 °C with 85% charged battery a few days ago. Prior to the start, the aircraft was cold soaked for 18-20 hours (even 42 hours on one occasion) outside the hangar in Leh and no heating source was used for starting.

etc
etc

interesting the igla was fired in a tail chase mode shocked

On one occasion, a formation of Sri La.... helicopters was fired upon by five stinger manpads. The three Mi-17s in the formation were fitted with ELTA's decoy system, and escaped unscathed (saving 90 troops and 12 crew) but the escorting Mi-24 had not been fitted with the system, and was downed.

therefor its prudent to have full spectrum counter measure systems on helicopter assets.

anyways from where did LT.. get the stingers grin

only one country had them in the region grin , stocks supplied as part of CI. program to arm the mujahed...

supplied both sides both the government and the insurgents huh , good business grin

during that period LT.. gun runners had made a few supply runs to Moro Islamic Militants in Philip..... even though they were short on arms themselves and had no previous contacts with them.

wonder why they did that , as a favor maybe for the stingers grin

food for though huh

in international relations one does not make friends or brothers

one gets only played for the bad or for the worse wink

hard truth but reality lipsrsealed

lolzzz In... got played worse, the world is a dipshit but no body wants to admit it becz everybody has their hands in the pie more or less grin grin grin

DRDO HEXAPOD developed by Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (CAIR)

CAIR has developed six and four legged robots. These robots have three degrees of freedom legs giving them omni-directional motion capability. The robots have been equipped with ultrasonic sensors for obstacle detection and avoidance. The hexapod,six-legged robot, has reptilian leg configuration while the quadruped, four legged robot, has mammalian leg configuration. The quadruped has additionally been provided actuated wheels to enable hybrid locomotion capability. These platforms have given an insight into the implementation of stable gaits for legged locomotion.
