I don't think NAF has ever had a requirement for medium fighter aircraft

but if they do...I am not complaining grin

$40 million a unit. The PRC are willing to sell, the export variant is called the FC-20.

This is my main choice for NAF, not even the JF-17. The J-10 is a competitor to the Eurofighter, Rafale and F-16 block 60.

Not from NTA, no.

IS NAF showing any interest? However with the JF17, I don't see us going for another brand soon.

Lol.. I added the NTA news my self.

No we aren't. The JF-17 and J-10 are similar planes, with the JF-17 we would not get any other multi-role fighter.

J-10 equipped with Russian AL31F engine, must wait for Russian approval first before it can export. Russia is not likely allow it to compete with Mig-29 in market,China has a similar engine WS-10 but has some reliablity problem, also IPR problem.Though China insist WS-10 is not a AL31F knock-off,it's a different engine combined with western technology.

Nemesis2u can you explain this more. Copied it from an article on China's hypersonic space plane.

"The hybrid space plane’s combined cycle engines would use turbofan or turbojet engines to takeoff horizontally from a landing strip. Once airborne, the engine then shifts to ramjet propulsion and, as speed increases, adjusts into a scramjet engine with supersonic airflow. At the scramjet stage, the hybrid spaceplane would enter hypersonic flight in ‘near space.’ Finally, the hybrid spaceplane would use its rocket motors to push out of near space and into orbit."

it is a attempt at turbine based combined cycle propulsion system, which is a turbine engine (turbofan or turbojet) combined with a ramjet and scramjet all of them sharing a common flow path.

so in short this is how it will work

"hybrid" engine will use its turbine mode to get off the ground like a plane

then after sufficient speed is attained for the ramjet engines to work , it will switch over to ramjet mode

then again when sufficient speed is attained for the sramjet engines to work , it will switch over to scramjet mode

all the above 3 modes happen within the atmosphere (sea level to near space). also higher speed (using ramjet and scramjet) means lesser time in atmosphere , better efficient, less fuel consumed, better tonnage etc. u get to have ur ass hauled into space pronto and cheaply grin

the oxidizer (oxygen) which is used is from the air itself (saves lot of weight and cost) and also the choice of fuel will depend and vary, but since the chinese like to emulate everything they will probably end up using liquid hydrogen like the others.

lastly it will use rocket motors for propulsion into space ( since oxidizer [oxygen] is absent in space ) the oxygen used will be collected from the atmosphere during the earlier flight stages, liquefied and stored for subsequent use in space.

it is not unique many countries r pursuing it in different variations

grin
