US diplomat fails to show up at Nigeria sex assault hearing

The US ambassador to Nigeria has snubbed Nigeria's parliament, refusing to appear before a panel investigating his allegation that three lawmakers were involved in sexual misconduct during a visit to the US in April.

House of Representatives spokesman Abdurrazak Namdaz told the BBC that James Entwhistle did not give any reason for failing to appear before the panel of lawmakers.

The panel was set up after Mr Entwhistle wrote to Nigeria parliament speaker, Yakubu Dogara, alleging that three of a 10-man delegation to a good governance exchange programme had allegedly been involved in behaviour that "left a very negative impression of Nigeria".



He wrote that Mohammed Garba Gololo "allegedly grabbed a housekeeper in his hotel room and solicited her for sex", while Mark Terseer Gbillah and Samuel Ikon "allegedly requested hotel parking attendants assist them to solicit prostitutes".

All three strongly denied the allegation, and threatened to sue to clear their names.

The panel postponed the hearing to 20 July following Mr Entwhistle's failure to attend, Mr Namdaz said.

Mr Entwhistle has not yet commented.

I know our lawmakers are very silly people, but in this case the US embassador must prove beyond reasonable doubt his accusations on these lawmakers especially the guy that was accused of grabbing a house keeper in his room.

Do they have cctv or cameras in the hotel rooms, that throws up another discussion all together. And how would they have cctv of the others soliciting for prostitutes thru car park attendant.

We all agree that the US would not make this kand of allegation without evidence. So let them present the evidence.


Why d guy no show up sef?

Wasn't it reported just yesterday that Ambassador Entwistle has retired?

The guy himself was probably having his own good times in a hotel with another ashewo. Oyibos love our ashewo soooo much!

The US ambassador should cooperate with the investigation panel.

He should bring his evidence against the people he had so maligned in the public.

The embassy of the US in Nigeria and it's workers are not subject to the laws of Nigeria.

Anecdote:

I raised an eyebrow when on Youtube I watched a young African American woman recount her experience, while working in a relevant conference center, of some Nigerian diplomats. I searched for the Vido but couldn't find it or I'd post it here. In any case, the African American woman was full of anger because, according to her, (not in exact words) "the Nigerian diplomats comported themselves in a swaggering attitude as if they owned the place"

Imagine!


One would have thought that she would be proud to see fellow blacks who acted like humanbeings that belonged instead of humble,apologetic lower-bings grateful to rub shoulders with masters . Reading some of the comments and her attitude, one is reminded again that the continued inequality that blacks experience world wide is often cultivated by them. Many wear the coat of oppression gladly.

You might wonder why the Anecdote above?

Well, don't be surprised if the reason the Nigerian diplomats (the Entwhistle affair))were accused of sexual harassment and treated as they were by the Americans was simply to humble them. Take them down a peg or two, make them feel black and not like Nigerian Diplomats.
