What Nigeria can learn from the failed coup.

The people loved their country more than their political parties, both the ruling and opposition party vehemently rejected the coup, the protest started just few minutes after the president address the citizens through FaceTime to go out and protest and immediately they where all out. The military knew it was a lost battle the moment the people came out Enmass to boo them, they had no choice but to submit to the govt. it was a tensed moment in Ankara and Istanbul f16 and assorted military jet parading the skies of turkey yet the people failed to be intimidated, defiled curfew and went out to fight for their right, it was civilians that forced military men out of attarurk airport, they did same at the state own broadcasting station that was seized by military same for cnn turkey.

If this was to be in Nigeria either PDP or APC would politicalized it and thereby divide the citizens, if the coup was against a southerner trust the north to support the coup, against a northerner the south will support. The Muslim too are going to support if an infidel a southerner was to be ousted out and the Christians will do same against a Muslim

I also realized that despite the tensed moment, the military didn't start shooting sparodically at protesters that was why they could disharm them. I could see civilians daring military with tanks and they kept calm as against Nigeria military who will kill 1000 on the spot.

The turkey opposition parties realized that despite their political differences they must save democracy first before talking about holding to power something our political class lack.

erdogan was not in control of the country for hours, he flew out of the country hence he had to address the country through FaceTime after military took control of trt and other media houses. The only hope left was the citizens who he told to go in the street and this didn't take minutes before they did.

If this was Nigeria, either PDP or APC would have supported the military and this would divide the citizens instead of protesters to go against the military, it would be PDP loyalist against APC loyalist and the military would take advantage to complete what they started.

The people in unity got back their country and restored democracy.

Hope we can learn a thing from this.

Mere thinking of losing election, they threatened to form a parallel Goverment and would rather deploy their armed youths to start killing their fellow Nigerians.

Politics of BAD BELLE.

AFRICA => A-fi-ri-ika. (Meaning we are free to be wicked).

Coup in 2016 with social media, and camera phones? Try it.

The above was my take last week on the coup rumor in Nigeria.

It makes it more complicated; a coup should be a secret endeavor, done in the most sacred of trusts, with the most brutal element of surprise (in the 80s, we only woke up to the national anthem and the voice of one General Sani 'you-know-who').

So, when you eliminate the secrecy angle, you eliminate trust, ultimately your most devastating weapon: 'surprise' is absolutely decimated! So what do you get -- you get left standing with your 'JT' in your palm . . . not a situation any half-intelligent and responsible officer wants to be in, considering the devastating consequences of a failed coup.

Social media caused the Arab spring. The most successful a coup (especially a not-so popular one) can get in this time and age is, causing anarchy and disintegration.

DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF SOCIAL MEDIA -- IT IS 'REAL' POWER TO THE PEOPLE!

You wonder why all our politicians and public office holders now have an online media team -- you can get destroyed in a whim online!

Ironically, the pathetic Turkish president (Erdogan), realized this and went attacking social media platforms -- voila, guess what saved him ATEOTD . . .

It is a win and a big lesson for the Turkish people (that ultimately the power lies with the people), a win and a big lesson for all democracies and peoples of the world (that ultimately the power lies with the people) including ours -- a win and a loss for Erdogan (he might retain his seat, but he has lost his insane bid to stifle the people's voices -- he owes them one -- a big one), and a big, big, lesson for him, and an opportunity for him to have a re-think about his bullish and corrupt ways.

A BIG LESSON FOR OUR LEADERS TOO.

And for all democracies; you don't like the system, vote wisely with your head next time when it is time to vote.

Stupidity is when you as a Nigerian dare come close a machine gun wielding Nigerian soldier in the name of fighting for this government. No govt can ever be as bad as this.

PDP would never support any coup in Nigeria, for over a year as opposition the party have refrained from making inciting statements, PDP actually left APC to oppose herself as the main opposition to this regime has been from its own party.
As for APC, we all saw their modus oparandi during their days as opposition.

If there should be a coup in Nigeria, it would be successful because the average Nigerian is complacent, the northerners would not oppose the coup if it is lead by a muslim from the north, the eastherners and those from south south would careless as they felt short changed by the present arrangement. as for the west, hmm, they would be divided among themselves. some would openly support the coup and put in place machineries to convince their people to support the new regime, others would oppose the coup on pages of newspappers while they secretely meet with the soldiers to negotiate deals, the few that would genuinely oppose the coup would be hounded into prison or exile.

In Nigeria, the coup will succeed...

True talk. .. In addition Turkey has a good electoral system were fraud is extremely minimal or non existent when people feel their vote has been stolen then they will not support you regardless.

More importantly the US response was belated lacked forcefulness required.... but the turks took their destiny into their own hand regardless of international media like cnn referring to the president as authoritarian this shows you must use your head and ignore idiots who use terms they don't understand or dishonestly.

Yes there are some minorities like Kurds and Armania Turks who has been assimilated culturally by Turks.
You can't compare that with where Yoruba,Hausa and Igbo are sharing same space.
