For two consecutive days, they have arrested my hubby and collected 20k from him. That was last week. Then collected 10k from my bro inlaw same last week for nothing oo. And the worst is that they were on traffic buh were accused of trying to pick passengers when they were seen in their own private cars o. Everyone should be super careful so as not to spend this hard earned money anyhow cos they won't listen to any of your explanations

Got ý

I believe I saw them doing this outside the intersection of Zenith and some other bank in Festac last week. Those banks don't have ample parking provided so what are customers to do? If the government and private entity provide parking, then yes, let it be on your head for not parking in the right place. But to penalise people when you've not done your job...no way, Jose.
The banks will then have to look for ways for customers to park their vehicles or loose patronage.
A good example is the new ikosi shopping mall built, there's a car park also built opposite it.
There's a twin tower @ oniru close to bonny camp round-about there's also an inbuilt car park.
Mega chicken, landmark etc have expansive parking lots
I ain't been overseas o, but why do u think car parks up to 5 storeys high are built?

Most businesses DO NOT even consider parking space(in relation to projected number of patrons) when building .

It's not government's job to provide parking space...tho govt can create some to generate revenue.

With time I believe we'll see more parking spaces erected... what my mum does sometimes is enter the nearest residential street to park then walk back to the main road. To carry out transactions.

If I park my car in front of an organisation that has parking permit from the lagos state govt. They have no right to remove my plates. secondly, what kind of public parking did the lagos state govt provide close to the area? If there are any I'd rather go and pay maybe 50naira to park than let the govt turn me to an ATM machine. In the face of serious economic challenges govt should look for ways to reduce the effect of the hardship on the citizens rather than fleecing us.

is it a sin to drive a car in lagos state? if the government doesn't want people to drive cars anymore I think it's just proper to let people know. the harassment and embarrassment is getting out of hand. how can you arm-twist people into paying forced fines in the name of revenue generation? it's sickening to say the least. they ought to be ashamed of themselves; those at the helms of affairs.

Travel and see then come back and type same. Only then will I agree with you.

How will drivers know legal and illegal parking as there are no yellow/red marking on the roads?

Good move!

That will at least curb illegal parking

Reduce over-head cost of towing vehicles to LASTMA garage

Reduce traffic on our ever busy roads and also,

Increase the productivity of LASTMA as less official will available to monitor a road sice they will only be needed to remove plate numbers.

The Lagos State Government need to procure electronic screw-drivers for them so it will be easier and faster for them to remove number plates.
When another person's corpse is carried the passers-by will never know what the bereaved are going through.
Why won't u say so, may be u have not gotten a car and I am praying that u get ur own car and also appreciate the new lagos revenue generation strategy. Have u ever considered u going to the bank, market or even to the toilet when u are called by the force of nature and there is no park close by ?
My friend please be rational when u are writing against or for any development. God bless u, bless me,bless everybody and also bless Lagos state and Nigeria as a whole.

Even if you are the chief justice of the state, you would be fined aslong as you find yourself in the wrong side of the law. If there was prior warning like traffic signs, then the fine would stay. i dont believe anyone is above the law sanctioned bu the state government. "Do you know who i am would not work". lol

But that's the point: the places they are operating in, do they have signs saying "No parking"?

Saintdennis, the Festac spot they were seizing plates, those people parked on a residential street. They actually parked beside the bank.

I like how you came-in and I must confess. But If I analyze your consideration, I could also be in position to ask you how many people you have inconvenienced by parking your car at an inappropriate spot. We just need to put this laws in place. Am sure you also have spent hours in traffic just because some folks re drinking in a pub close to the road.

I think its a highly welcomed development. My Opinion tho!

Last week I was in Lagos and went to a Zenith Bank in Festac to withdraw in company of my brother, before getting there he asked me to give him my card and my pin, I was surprised but being my brother I gave him the card and told him my pin.
When we arrived at the bank, he asked me to turn off my small phone, step out of the car, open the bonnet and pretend as if the car just developed fault and start making an imaginary phone call, cursing whosoever I was on the phone with... Them LasMa guys came and instead of removing my plate number they offered to help as one of them was a mechanic, to cut the story short, we did all out transactions and left without any disturbance from the LASMA guys.

I'd like to bring to our attention the new law on vehicle parking in Lagos State which was recently implemented (I believe) by the Lagos State Government and enforced by Lastma. Vehicles parked by the side or on the curbs of some major roads now have their vehicle number plates removed. The owner of the vehicle is then arraigned before a mobile court in absentia and fined.

During the visit of the Chief Security Officer of my establishment to the mobile court last week, he witnessed many motorists who were sentenced to 2 weeks of community service at the Gbagada General Hospital or a payment of a fine of N15,000.00 or both. Both processes of appearance in court and payment of the fine at Skye Bank, Alausa branch are tedious.

Please let's avoid the embarrassments this could cause and stay on the right side of the law.

THIS IS A NARRATION FROM A VICTIM

I had a very terrible experience yesterday morning on my way to work and I want people to learn from it. At about 10 am, I parked in front of a bank to use the ATM, I had barely come down from the car when I saw somebody videoing the cars parked in front of the bank. By the time I opened my car, I saw a fleet of Lagos state branded vehicles and so many people came down and started removing the plate number of cars including mine.

I came down from the car and forcefully tried stopping them from removing my plate number, explaining to them that I just came to use the ATM, then one of the police officers said to me "madam it's beyond us o, the Chief Judge is in that bus". I then went to the chauffeur driven beautiful bus in the fleet where I was told by the police escort to go and talk to the team on the road. The vehicles' plate numbers were removed, including mine and they put a paper in front of my car to come to Alausa.

Before going to Alausa, I went in to see them in the bank and I asked them, is this how you allow your customers to be maltreated ? They responded and I quote "they don't even know how to go about this Lagos revenue drive". On getting to Alausa, we were asked to wait, that the Chief Judge to sit at the mobile court is still on the road and they had an overflown office filled with people .

To cut my long story short, they already opened a case file for each of their so called offenders and they advised me to plead guilty before the magistrate otherwise the case will be adjourned till further notice "can you imagine that"? Eventually, I was charged guilty with a fine of N15k or an option of one week community work and some had N20k or N25k fine as the case maybe with an option of one month imprisonment etc.

A lady said she was inside Tantalizer in Ogba when her plate number was removed and both the prosecutor and the defender's lawyers were provided by the State Government. Can you beat that? All they were saying was "Lagos state needs to generate more revenue". My questions are: Must our dear State generate its revenue at the expense of its citizens? Where are we then supposed to park when visiting banks, eateries and shops? As we are meant to believe that most of the available spaces in front of the banks and other buildings are Government setbacks. These questions and more need answers.

Forewarned is forearmed as they were also spotted on Ajose Adeogun in Victoria Island this week. Nigeria is really waking up fast.

Doubt that... banks are not n cannot be built on residential streets. Also roads leading to the express are called access roads/single carriageway, you ain't allowed to park on them.

Maybe I should use the words inner streets. My mum parks in the inner streets.

Truth is its international best practice... just watch b4 u know it banks will start erecting parking spots... these hiccups are normal with new policy.

B4 u know it other commercially bubbling states like will introduce it

[quote author=1Emmy post=47814282]This is supposed to be on the front page. Honestly Lagos state Govt is exploiting Lagosians in many ways.
I remember January when we drove past a road in Alausa, all of a sudden we saw RRS police men with all kinds of vehicle and towing Van behind us. We got to traffic and stop and as we were waiting for the traffic to signal green, one of their vehicle came closer to us and asked us why we bypassed that traffic. As we were asking the man which traffic, they came down and invaded our vehicle and ordered us to drive straight to task force office in Alausa. When we got there they refused to talk to us, seized our vehicle (Toyota Venza) and detained our driver. He was later release at very late hour but the vehicle was still seized. We were asked to come the next day for the vehicle. When the drive went to get the vehicle, he later called me that he has been charged to court. I thought it was a joke. I rushed to the task force when I got there, he was already bundle into black Maria and headed to court. Hmm.. I was like. What kind of problem is this. When I got to court, I saw people with different cases.. Some Street hawkers, some Dando drivers, some Street boys. But i discovered that non has a serious case, it was all about "generating revenue".
To cut the story short, our lawyer advised the driver to plead guilty even when we knew he was not guilty. He was fine 30k or serve 3months jail term. We went back to the task force paid the fee before we could finish it was 4pm and that day was on Friday.
The young man was remanded in in prison till the next Monday. He was release when we presented the papers showing the payment and all that. The vehicle was equally realeased but all our phone and most valuable items stolen.

Ambode is overdoing himself with all the ill-thought-out unreasonable tax regimes. Are people supposed to carry their cars on their heads when entering banks or eateries. Yet these establishments are not mandated to have car parks. He is fast becoming infamous for putting the cart before the horse. Multi-level parking lots, public lots, underground parks are not provided, you're prohibiting people from parking cars.

With all the space above you see Nigerians parking on the road and inhibiting traffic with the excuse of I will not stay long.

Don't mind them the worst culprits are those who lived in one room but have three worthless pangolo which they called cars, which are of course parked on the streets to cause more traffic jams as usual.

So, this 'drive' is not even about curbing traffic violations but about generating revenue?? This makes no sense.

And even if there were some merit to it, is it too much to ask that the public be notified first? It is high time we begin to demand (even though it is only proper anyway), that any of such policies should first be introduced to the public by extensive and proper enlightenment campaigns, long before action is taken to implement them.

How can the government enact and implement policies seemingly on the spur of the moment, especially with direct effects on the public as this one, without educating the people for whom the policies are supposedly made?

The other time it was a reactionary policy against Street hawking. Now, this. Haba!
