The senate today inaugurate a committee on budget reform.Below is the information shared on social media by Senate President Bukola Saraki.…..

'Today, I inaugurated two committees that have been tasked with coming up with a budget reform proposal that will aid the passage of a budget bill that will address the following:

Close the structural and procedural gaps that limit transparency and accountability in the budget process;
Design a legislative framework that fully provides for the effective oversight of off-budget accounts that typically lack oversight and transparency;
Design efficient timelines for the entire budget process;
Enable the National Assembly to adequately interrogate budget bills fully before passage;
Create new tools for efficiency in the implementation of budget oversight schemes of the National Assembly;
Create performance reports on all aspects of the budget - including the budget of the three arms of government;
Address the absence of continuous legislative oversight structure with the MDAs;
Remedy the inadequate budget impact assessment scheme; and
Develop a robust linkage between the budget outcome and the next budget cycle.

It is my hope that with this framework in place, we can address many of the discrepancies that occurred during the last budget cycle'.
