Following the introduction of a three-day working policy in a week, the Imo State government has scrapped annual leave for its State Civil Servants.
This was disclosed on Wednesday by the State Commissioner for Information, Tourism and Public Utilities, Chief Vitalis Orikeze Ajumbe, while addressing journalists in Owerri, the state capital.

According to Ajumbe, the directive was part of the decisions taken at the last sitting of the State Executive Council, SEC, meeting.

He said, “Having given approval for the immediate implementation of the new work policy, the beneficiaries will no longer be entitled to annual leave, casual leave, sick leave and unnecessary absence from work, for all manner of reasons.”

He, however, explained that some categories of workers like “nurses, doctors, teachers, journalists, broadcasters and other essential services workers would maintain the old work schedule.”

Ajumbe further dismissed the insinuations that the new work policy was a move by the state government to enforce slash in salaries of workers through the back door.

“I must make it very clear that the new policy will not in any way; affect the take home pay of workers. Government is giving it’s word on this,“ the Commissioner added.
