For anyone who plays chess actively in Nigeria, please use this thread to update us on any available tournament anywhere in Nigeria. There's one holding in Maryland this weekend, here are the details from the Team Nigeria group admin.

Dear All,
The next friends of chess rapid event takes place on the
13th of August at the Maxton suites in maryland,Lagos. The following information was meant to have been on the FOC website which sadly is down presently.
The event will be a 7 round FIDE rated event in a single category with time contol of 20 minutes with 10 seconds added on per move from move 1.
Start time will be 9.30 am to finish at 6.30 pm, the schedule being as follows

round 1 9.30 - 10.30
round 2 10.45 - 11.45
round 3 12.00 - 13.00
break 13,00 - 13.45
round 4 13.45 - 14.45
round 5 15.00 - 16.00
round 6 16.15 - 17.15
round 7 17.30 -18.30

Effort will be made to keep within the above schedule with a 15 minute allowance either side. Though the event is in a single category prizes will be distributed in the following manner: general prizes, u 2000 and unrated prizes and female prizes. The first criteria for classification is obviously gender followed by fide rapid rating and then fide regular rating.

1st 30000
2nd 20000
3rd 15000
4th 10000

best under 2000 - 2099 9000

unrated to 2000
1st 15000
2nd 12500
3rd 10000
4th 7500

best unrated 6000

female prizes
1st 12500
2nd 9000
3rd 6500

Prize winners will be paid by electronic funds transfer within 48 hours of the conclusion of the event (all things being equal within 2 hours of the conclusion of the event actually) . Prizes might increase if more sponsorship comes in but the above are what can be considered
guaranteed.

Entry fees are 1500 for CPAN members who are up to date with their payments, 2000 for other CPAN members and 2500 for non CPAN members. As the venue is free and there is no need to rent tables, there is no penalty for late registration. However, we must bear in mind that the venue is relatively small and as such provision will be made for 64 players at most and as such it will be
entries will be on a first come first served basis except you happen to be a sponsor of the event!

Friends of chess events are sponsored by chess players like you and me and it will be mandatory for winners to show appreciation to our sponsors either by text messages or by sending emails to them. We must also appreciate the management of Maxton suites who have made available a venue for free for we chess players and the manager has offered to sell food on the
day at a slightly reduced rate
